Upgrade from ESXi 5.5 to 6.0 - Will old drivers remain?

Hello!

 

Im planning on upgrading my home environment tomorrow from ESXi 5.5 to 6.0.

 

On my Supermicro X10SLM-F motherboard i have two Intel NIC's. On of them wasn't supported when i was installing 5.5 so i had to integrate the drivers into my 5.5 ISO when i was installing the server for the first time.. Now to my question..

 

Will I also have to import the drivers to the ESXi 6.0 ISO or will the drivers from 5.5 remain with the upgrade?

 

Is there anything else i need to know before upgrading?

Export of ErrorRecord Category Information

Is it possible to export all of the PowerCLI Error Category's and Category Reasons? I am trying to build some error handling into a script depending on the type of error produced. Here is an example of an error with the information I am looking for:

 

PS C:\> $test[0].CategoryInfo

 

Category   : InvalidArgument

Activity   : Get-VMHost

Reason     : ViServerConnectionException

TargetName :

TargetType :

 

Additionally is it possible to export all of the different Error Expection Types used by PowerCLI? For example: [VMware.VimAutomation.Sdk.Types.V1.ErrorHandling.VimException.ViServerConnectionException]

FURIOUS with this software. USB simply does not work!

Wasted god knows how many hours of my time today.  Connect my usb device and NOTHING SHOWS UP anywhere in vmware or its logs "No USB devices" is what is displayed.  This software is garbage.

 

Tried everything I can think of, all usb verbose settings, no fucking output.  Are you serious?  How can you charge money for a program that blatantly ignores usb devices.

What are the differences between "PowerState" and "Guest.State" when I run the Get-VM powercli command

I run the following powercli script:-

Get-VM |Export-Csv -Path c:\test.csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture

 

And from there I found 2 properties that describe the VM status:-

 

1. PowerState which can be either ;PoweredOn OR PoweredOff

2. Guest.State which can be either ; running or not running

 

So can anyone advice about the differences between these two properties ? . Could I have for example a vm with PowerState = PowerOn , while its Guest.State = not running ?

vCenter licenses deatils

unable to log on to esxi6.1

Installed a new server with ver6.U1a . I can login  via DCUI, but unable to log on via sphere desktop client.

The error message is "can complete login due to un incorrect user name and password"

I can login using ssh.

i tried on another pc with new vesper client and still has an issue.

Exclude specific Filesystems from Filesystem out of space warning

Hi there,

 

I´m trying to optimize our symptoms that they fit our needs.

We have some applications where they need an USB Dongle for Licencing but this dongle is displayed as a 100% filled NTFS Filesystem. So every of these reports as an urgent problem because this this is full.

What is the best way to build a symptom that is not interested in drive Z: for example?

OS X 10.11 guest: Bluetooth sharing doesn't seem to work...

While experimenting in Fusion 8 with some (Mac) OS X VMs, from 10.7 to 10.11, I found that the option to share Bluetooth devices with the virtual machine works in 10.7-10.10, while it doesn't seem to work in a 10.11 guest: where, besides not having any Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences (and thus also no Bluetooth menu extra), System Information also won't find any Bluetooth device.

Why only DirectX 9.0EX and OpenGL 2.1 in Fusion 8.0.1?

I've been through the user guide (http://pubs.vmware.com/fusion-8/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/fusion-8-user-guide.pdf p13) and as far as I can tell I meet all the requirementsfor OpenGL 3.3 & Direct X 10 but the Display settings dialog where I check on "Accelerate 3D Graphics" says it only "Supports DirectX 9.0EX with Aero and OpenGL 2.1"


System details below:

Host OS: Mac OS 10.10.4

Host Hardware: MacBook Air 11-inch early 2015, 8Gb RAM

Host Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536Mb

 

Fusion Version: 8.0.1 (Standard version, evaluating)

Guest OS: Windows 10 64-bit

Hardware version: 12

 

The user guide, p13, says:

3D accelerated video with DirectX 10 with OpenGL 3.3 for Windows Vista and later [YES: Windows 10 64-bit] as the guest OS. DirectX 10 requires OSX 10.10 or later [YES: 10.10.4] on the host and hardware version 12 [YES] and later. DirectX 10 also requires a GPU version of Intel HD4000 or later [YES: Intel HD6000], Nvidia GeForce 650M or later, or AMD Radeon HD 5750 or later.

 

I'm evaluating Fusion to see if I can run CAD software on a casual basis which needs OpenGL 3+. Do I need the pro version, am I missing some settings, or is my system setup not up to it?

VMWare Fusion 7 Hangs When VM on USB 3 Drive

Hi,

 

 

I'm currently running a VM on an external USB 3.0 drive (Transcend).  However, I've found that VMware Fusion often hangs and is unresponsive both in terms of input and output and according to Activity Monitor (it says: "Not Responding").

 

I am using the latest version of VMWare Fusion 7 on Mac OS X 10.9.

 

I was able to profile the VMWare Fusion process after the hang (but when I tried this for the vmware-vmx process, it would keep running for a long time with no output). (see attached).  However, under Activity Monitor, it does give me that vmware-vmx has about 1600 recent hangs (see screenshot attached)

 

Finally, I don't run into this issue if I run the VM from my local built-in drive.

 

Any ideas?  Thanks.

Is it possible to disable weak SSL ciphers on both the webserver and the agents?

I would like to disable anything less than 128bit.

Hello,

 

My question is in the title :  Is it possible to run vCenter 5.1 or 5.5 without SSO ?

 

I don't want to install AD because I don't need of it. It was not necessary in vCenter 5.0 and I would like to continue.

 

Is sometone know a solution ?

Hello Team,

 

Using Rest-API i would like to get the statistics of traffic flow between two VMs.

 

From API Config Guide, i think below GET command should suffice:

GET https://<nsxmgr-ip>/api/2.1/app/flow/flowstats?contextId=datacenter-21&flowType=TCP_UDP&startTime=0&endTime=1320917094000&startIndex=0&pageSize=2

 

I dont know how to find the "contextId" for the desired traffic flow ?

i have deployed vMA on my esxi 5.5  and i read complete vMA guide and understand command such as ( vifp addserver , vifp list server , vifp reconfigure , ...)

but i am confused what is the benefit of vMA ?

where can i  user this?

why do i have to use vMA ?

ESXi 5.5 to 6 on HP ProLiant BL460c G7

Hi Guys,

 

I've having a strange issue upgrading from ESXi 5.5 Update 2 to ESXi 6.0 Update 1. I've following hardware:

 

HP ProLiant BL460c G7

6 CPUs x 2.533 GHz

Intel (R) Xeon(R) CPU

E5649 @ 2.53GHz


VMware compatibility matrix shows that this hardware is compatible with ESXi 6.0 Update 1. When I upgraded from ESXi 5.5 Update 1 to ESXi 6.0 Update 1 my host networking is't working. On iLO console I can see host showing upgrade to ESXi 6.0 Update 1 with all the configs still in there, but I can't ping it in or ping out of it. Also it's really slow if I want to change options in the shell.

 

I tested to revert it back to ESXi 5.5 and everything started working as before.

 

Could someone please help me with this? Do I need to upgrade some drivers to make this working?

Windows 95 VM

Hey Guys,

 

 

 

 

 

I am having major problems with a windows 95 VM, I have some old games that only run in windows 95\Dos not in 98,  so I got my 95 disk out and installed and Virtual macheen, and when to install the drvers and the video drive will not install and it tells me" My dispay adaptor is not configured" well i need 32 bit of color (it the canaden spelling so get over it) but 95 is being evil and tells me its, wrong

 

 

 

 

 

It's windows 95 4.00.950

 

 

do i need a newer verson of 95 as i do know there are like 5 versons of it, that were updates and what not

 

 

or is there a configured VM of 95? as that would just be easer for me,

Any idea how I get vCenter externally facing, whenever install options I choose SSO always re-directs to https://servername.mydomain.com and drops to 9443 at the end unlike my previous 5.5 install.  With my vCenter 5.5 install this wasn't a problem I simply forwarded 9443 port to the internal IP and all was well.  I can't remember if I tweaked anything specific to get this working but I don't think so.

 

I have looked in the web client within Administration and SSO but can't seem to find anything that relates to changing the redirection address.  Maybe if I could get it redirecting on port 9443 my port forwarding would work and it would be externally accessible?
