vMotion between two hosts with different version?
Hi,
Can we vMotion VM's between two hosts with different version? For example, vMotion a VM from esxi 6.0 to esxi 5.5, or from esxi 5.5 to esxi 6.0.

windows xp sp3 guest - no network for update
Hello,
my winxp sp3 guest can't get latest updates as there is no network for update.
I can browse the internet and so on but i can't update.
Is this because MS stopped updates for win xp ?

Second VCDX Requirements
I've heard that for a person with one VCDX who wants to obtain a second VCDX just submitting a design is required - no more defending.
I am just trying to clarify - is the VCIX for the second track ALSO not required?
For example, someone who holds a VCDX-DCV would not need to pass the VCIX-NV to obtain the VCDX-NV?

Governance in VIO - restricting tenant's from breaking stuff (ie networking)
Hi all,
We are currently looking at VIO with dVS networking on a test rig. We have been able to set up a provider network, which maps to a VLAN on our physical network, allowing our imaginary tenant (project) access to the outside world.
A tenant user (ie non administrator) is NOT able to create a provider network (good thing) however, it seems standard (ie non admin) tenant users do seem to have the ability to delete thier provider network from within there own project (bad thing).
Is there a way to "lock tenant users down" ie preventing a tenant from deleting provider networks from within his or her project? I see "roles" listed in the horizon dashboard, but i don't see anything relating to this in the VIO documentation.

vCLUM Monthly Report Inconsistencies
Hello all,
I've been using vCLUM to meter and report my monthly vCAN usage for some time. I've recently retrieved some old reports going back a few months and am seeing inconsistencies.
For some background knowledge, every month I generate a Monthly Usage report in my 4 vCLUM appliances. I take this information and enter the usage values into a spreadsheet of my own making and then I submit the totals for my monthly vCAN usage. This has worked very well.
Unfortunately, when I pull these same historical reports from vCLUM now, it's not showing the same usage numbers. To be more precise, the numbers on average that vCLUM is showing is 20-40 less than what I reported for said month.
Has here seen an issue like this where it appears the vCLUM appliance has lost information? Starting this month, I'm using version 3.4 which I hope resolves this weird issue. However, the 4 appliances randomly showing this issue are all version 3.3.2.

vmware ws 11 windows xp guest: pga tour 07 black screen
Hello,
i like to get pga tour 07 run on my windows xp sp3 guest.
Unfortunately, the screen remains black.
The game is starting but i can only do setup etc.
But when i start a tour, the screen remains black.
i have an AMD 7950 video card.
3d is enabled for vm.
Anyone knows what i can do in order to solve this ?

VMware Player Click Drift Causing Daiy Freezing and Dirty Shutdowns...

I am getting vmware clock drift in windows XP VMWare Player.
VMWare Host is Windows 7.
I ran this VMware on other windows 7 laptops with
no issues. I have run it on the current laptop for the
past year with no issues. I am not sure if the daylight savings
change caused the issues....But now every day it seems to "lose time"
and then 24 hours ish from the time that it last froze from clock drift,
it freezes once again. I have tried the syro time in VM Ware tools and on
and off, and that did not correct the issue. Does anyone have an EASY and
FAST way to implement a solution for this? I feel that if I have to keep shutting
down VMWare dirty everyday that I am going to ruin the image.

Mime attachment in vRA
Hi all,
I have created a workflow that uses mime attachment as an input parameter, to upload a .csv file. The flow works flawlessly and does what it is suppose to do.
Now I want to use the flow as a Service and I have uploaded it into vRA as a Advanced service. The problem i get is when run in vRA the mime attachment input gives me no option to upload the file. Is there a alternative to mime attachment?
The Flow in vRA should allow the user to upload a .csv file from him local machine and the flow should be able to read the file to process it further.

Writable volume change with profile
Hey Guys,
Don't know if any of you read the release notes but I was shocked when reading the below part of the Writable volume change.
For us this was the unique selling point of Appvolumes and it's writable volume, not worrying about profiles and applications anymore and providing a pooled floating desktop
If they are to actually follow through with this it I would again have 2 points were I need to safe user data, 1 in the writable volume, 1 in the UEM Profile folder (and maybe even the redirected folder).
Also, something like an Offline Outlook file or settings stored in Localappdata will no longer be managed.
For me it seems like VMWare is actually killing it's darling here, no idea who ever came up with this brilliant idea.
Would love to hear other users point of view though.

Cisco UCS c240 Can't have a partition outside the disk
Hi,
I'm trying to install ESXi 5.5 on a c240 M3 UCS Cisco.
The local drive is a FlexFlash Raid 1 of 2 sd cards.
At the time of install, esx sees the local 30g card.
asks language, root password and when I click on install, it gives an error. (see attached files)
this program has encountered an error: parted util, Can't have a partition outside the disk
I have 2 exactly configured servers, out of the box, same error... any idea?

For forks sake! - bin/sh: Cant fork error but have the HP-AMS 10.0.1 update?
Hosts stopped responding and showed as disconnected in VCenter. 5.1.
Attemoted DCUI logon - refused only sowing "/bin/sh: Cant fork"
KB/2085618 informs that an AMS version under 10.0.01 could cause this issue but we have 10.0.1-07.434156 installed on the hosts so this is confusing?
Any clues or anyone encountered something similar when we have the correct update?

iPad won't charge over USB with Fusion 8.0.1 on El Capitan
I'm trying 8.0.1 to see if there are less USB issues than with 7.1.2.
But while the connection issue is now gone I can no longer recharge my iPad.
When VMware is running (with one guest) my iPad will connect but show "Not charging". This continues even after stopping Fusion.
After a reboot my iPad will charge just fine but when I start Fusion the "Not charging" message is back...

Cannot view console on VM discovered via VCSA - "Failed to initialize SSL session to remote host".
Hi there,
I have a few ESXi 6 nodes connected to a VCSA. I connect to the VCSA via VMWare Fusion Professional 8.0.2 on OS X 10.9.5.
I'm able to see the list of VMs but when I click on one the console view stays black and I get a dialog that says "Failed to initialize SSL session to remote host."
How do I fix this? (Or diagnose it?)

VMWare Workstation not able to start
I found myself unable to use the VMWare Workstation 12 trial on `Debian` Stretch as well as on `Ubuntu 15.10`. It installs just fine, but when I attempt to start it, it simply does nothing, no error or anything else.
I came across this thread: https://communities.vmware.com/message/2550227
so I tried to `export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/vmware/lib/libglibmm-2.4.so.1/:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH`, which allowed me to start the GUI, but it states that a required `gcc` version is not installed (which is) and won't let me proceed.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Guest with NAT networking: can't resolve hostname with SSH
Hi,
I have a Windows 10 VM running in VMWare 8 Pro. When using NAT networking, the VM can resolve DNS hostnames in the browser, but cannot do so from SSH (I'm using mysysgit's installed SSH). Under NAT:
(mingw64) $ git pull
ssh: Could not resolve hostname bitbucket.org: Non-recoverable failure in name resolution
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.
I get this with any repository, not just bitbucket. Switching to Bridged networking solves the problem, but de-isolates my VM from the rest of my network, so I would prefer to find a solution to the NAT case.

Migration from vSphere 5 to 6
Hi,
I want to replace/upgrade 3 nodes ESXi 5 (IBM System X) to 2 nodes ESXi 6 (HP Proliant).
There is NetApp Shared Storage and vCenter 5 standard
1) Upgrade vCenter 5 standard to vCenter server 6 standard
2) Deploy ESXi 6 to the both HP Proliant nodes and add it to the vCenter server
3) Create a new clusters with the both ESXi 6 nodes and new datastore
3) vMotion (change both host and datastore) between the ESXi5 cluster to the ESXi 6 cluster.
Is this upgrade path possible?
Is there someting wrong?
Question: I Have to upgrade to vSphere 5.5 before be able to vmotion (host and storage) to vsphere 6 ?

Hot cloning virtual machine with database?

I'm preparing to run a clone of a Windows virtual machine running MySQL, and I'm wondering if I can hot clone the source machine with the database services running. Or is the recommendation to halt the database services prior to the clone?
