vCenter services need to be stopped before doing a sql database backup ?

Hello,

 

Which Vmware services need to be stopped before starting my SQL database backup for my vCenter 6? (vCenter 6u1 + MS SQL 2014)

Stopping all services take a few minutes ("service-control --stop --all") ... to minimize time of interruption, i would like to know which services at the minimum must be stopped or if i can start my backup without stop any services.

Error 1034

When running one of my workflows in the webclient the workflow does what it should but the webclient throws "Error 1034" (on vCenter and Orchestrator 5.5).

 

I've searched the Internet and even if some VMware related sites suggest that the problem might be disk space, or the lack of it. (That is not the case here as we have several hundred GB of free space.) Other sites says it is related to Flex, but I haven't found any solution to this problem.

 

Anyone else who have experienced this?

Can't add Groups or Users

I am having an issue when trying to create users and groups to assign them to projects. I am using LDAP, but for some reason i don't see the click buttons to add users or groups. Am i missing something here? Attached are the screenshots. vioadmin is the account i was using when i connected VIO with LDAP during deploying openstack.

Even if i create the project and add the group "VIO_Users" to the "project Groups" and click OK, It doesn't add the group to the "project Groups"

 

Note: the _member_ roles was not created by default and i had to create it through Horizon in order to be able to create Projects.

Hi; I am running Windows 7, 64 Bit OS. I am experiencing the following error message: "Error while powering on: The operation was canceled by the user" when I attempt to power up my VMWare Player from a "Suspended" state. It works fine until then.

Salve,

 

 

Ho creato un lab.

 

su Vm Workstation 10 ho installato un Esxi 5.5.o con un win 2008 server lo sto aggiungendo come Host a un cluster su Vcenter server v5.0.0 su una altra VM dove ho installato win 2008 server. Ovviamente fra di loro le macchine si vedono.

quando vado a fare add to host viene riconociuto l'host ma alla da stato disconnected ed errore .

 

Timed waiting for vpxa to start

 

Forse sto sbagliando qualche impostazione nell'aggiunta dell'host

 

Qualcun può aiutarmi?

iSCSI port binding disabled in virtual adapter settings

I am building a nested ESXi 6 cluster within ESXi 6. I have 6 NICs and bound one to a vDS. However, the option for iSCSi port binding is disabled:

 

Any idea why? The link is up for the port.

Help for snapshot script

Hello, i really have hardtime to find info i need to create a powercli script.

 

We have 100 vm in self-service environement.

 

All VM use the same Parent-VM snapshot setup in the workstation pool in Vmware view.

 

I try to create a schedule script who need to complete those task:

 

     - Verify if a new snapshot exist.

     - if yes assign the new snapshot to the workstation pool

     - delete the machines to recreate them with the new snapshot.

 

If someone got some clue to help me.

Unattended Workstation Install with Enhanced Keyboard Included

Does anyone know of a command to include in the unattended install of Workstation to include the Enhanced Keyboard Driver?

 

This is the command I use now. Someone asked for the Enhanced Keyboard Driver to be included and the only way I can find to do that is to run the install again to add it manually.

 

VMware-workstation-full-11.1.0-2496824.exe /s /v EULAS_AGREED=1 SERIALNUMBER="123-456-789-123-456" ADDLOCAL=ALL

Horizon Flex Deployment Issue

Dear All

 

Requesting your support for this issue

 

Here I am trying to deploy Horizon flex , Firstly Flex is composed of Mirage Components.

 

Also installed CA service on my Domain controller(windows 2012 ) and installed .7pb files on the below components and
certificates have got installed on the below components.

Mirage components include :

1) Mirage Management Server

2) Mirage Server
3)Mirage Management Console

4)Mirage Web management (FLEX)

 

I have installed 1) and 4) in single VM and 2) and 3) in another VM
I am able to login to the flex and have set it up
I have also created CVD and uploaded .tar file to google drive
How my Mirage Management server and uploaded Image does not communicate.

Error registering a plugin

I'm able to register the plugin and it's getting showed up MOB. But the GUI doesn't display it nor it gets listed under "Administration"->"Client Plug-ins".

The Virgo log entries corresponding to the plugin are given below.

An existing and running VM doesn't show in vCenter

Hello everyone,

 

I have a particular situation. We have 47 VMs in our VMware farm. I've been tweaking a VM dedicated for WSUS. I can access it through RDP, configure parameters, and so on. For some reason I needed to go back into vCenter in order to check some specs out, and cannot see it at all...!!! How's that possible? I can see the list of all the VMs alphabetically, but I don't find the one I was working on that is still up and running.

 

Someone knows why is that behavior? Someone knows how to bring it up again into vCenter? That's really odd and I had never seen this before.

How do I get a higher display resolution

I am new to vcloud air. As I saw in all my Win2012R2 VMs its not possible to get a higher resolution than 1200x800?

VMware Tools are installed. What do I wrong???

Need some help with a datastore supermetric

I need some help creating a supermetric to show a ratio between the percentage of space overprovisioned on a datastore to the percentage of free space on a datastore.

 

In plain math, let's say we have a 1TB datastore.  That datastore has 1.5TB provisioned (using the vCenter terminology).  That same datastore has 400GB of free space remaining.  So the datastore 150% provisioned (1.5/1).  There is also roughly 40% free space remaining (400/1024).  I want to create a supermetric that shows that the 150% / 40% = 3.75.  Since we use thin provisioning exclusively (we have all NFS), the amount of overprovsioning relative to the amount of free space remaining is very important.

 

The equation is simple enough, but I've been having a difficult time finding the proper metrics.  The size of the datastore and the free space on the datastore I had no problem with.  However, finding what has been provisioned is a different matter.  1) I can't find one that matches what is reported in vCenter, and 2) they tend to be slightly different, and I don't understand the differences.

 

On the datastore in question there is 2.85TB provisioned (2918.4GB). However...

 

Capacity|Provisoned Consumer Space (GB) = 2,442GB

Disk Space|Provisioned Space (GB) = 2,665GB

 

Neither is 2918, but what is the 200GB difference?  Even if I add Snapshot Space and Swapfile Space, which are only 28GB combined, I come up well short.

vMA 6.0 Active Directory user login

I've successfully joined vMA to AD domain, however AD users can login to appliance only using local console (login: class\Administrator) but not using ssh.

Here is example:

login as: Administrator@class.local@vma1

2nd Display screen flickering and slow graphics performance El-Capitan, VM Fusion Version 6.0.6 (2684343)

I am using VMWare Fusion Version 6.0.6 (2684343) on a Mac to run Windows 8.1

 

Since upgrading my Macbook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) to El-Capitan I have been having issues with VMWare.

 

These issues only occure with an Exteranl/2nd Monitor


Issues:

  • Severe screen flickering when starting up the virtual machine.
  • Once the virtual machine starts up I get general flickering constantly. This is both on the VM and on the Mac.
  • Sometimes when I run VMWareFusion I get an error (VMware Fusion quit unexpectedly). The error message is pasted below and a detailed error repotrt is attached.
  • Graphics performance is slow.
    • Simple things like moving the cursor causes the display to freeze.
    • Switcing views fixes the freezing.
    • Scrolling a visual studio file almost certainly cause the graphics to freeze

 

Application Specific Information:

Failed to change disk uuid A specified parameter was not correct: spec.deviceChange.device

Hello I am trying to change the disk.uuid field using Reconfig_vm() operation for ESX 6.0.

when i am trying to change the disk.uuid for snapshpot VMDK then i am getting error as "A specified parameter was not correct: spec.deviceChange.device "


if you change the disk.uuid for parent VMDK then its works fine.


can somone suggest what might be wrong?


This works fine for ESX 5.* for snapshot VMDK.

Free ESXi 4.1 u3 ghettoVCB.sh: line 836: syntax error: Bad substitution

I can't get ghettoVCB.sh to run on free ESXi v4.1.

 

Have copied the .sh and .conf files to /ghettoVCB-master .  When I enter ./ghettoVCB.sh I get:

 

ghettoVCB.sh: line 836: syntax error: Bad substitution

 

If I try /bin/ash ghettoVCB.sh I get exactly the same.

 

The execute bit is set:

Script for measuring deployment time

All,

I am writing a script to list deployment times of VM's and I am getting an error when trying to create the report.  I got it working, but it is displaying the event twice and i'm not sure why

IaaS Windows blueprint does not use VirtualMachine.Network0.PrimaryDns and other DNS related properties

Reading this: vCloud Automation Center Documentation ... provisioning Windows (Linux works!) VM with the following properties defined does not work as expected. Properties attached to VM are:

 

        VirtualMachine.Network0.Address : 10.0.107.16

        VirtualMachine.Network0.DnsSearchSuffixes : xyz.local

        VirtualMachine.Network0.Gateway : 10.0.0.1

        VirtualMachine.Network0.Name : DATA-01

        VirtualMachine.Network0.PrimaryDns : 10.0.177.1

        VirtualMachine.Network0.SubnetMask : 255.255.0.0

 

But when VM is cloned and customization is complete:

  • PrimaryDns, DnsSearchSuffixes are not configured
  • Static IP, Mask, PortGroup and Gateway are configured

 

It seems to be an issue of moving vCAC machine properties to the sysprep configuration - before sysprep is called the DNS parameters are missing from C:\sysprep\sysprep.xml as it can be seen on the screenshot in red (there is no reference to DNS server IP in whole sysprep.xml file). Yellow configuration is expected.

This works for Linux VMs, which makes it look like a bug on Windows. Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone has a work around?
