Hi all,

I have been asked if I can save the metrics about application usage in vROPs for Horizon.

However I have a doubt as they have a combination of RDSH published apps and also locally installed (in the template/parent VM) apps.

I believe that vROPs for Horizon will only monitor app usage (logon time, session duration etc) when the apps are RDSH or AppVolumes published.

That is, if an app is installed directly on a template machine, vROPs for Horizon will not know when that app is opened, closed etc.

The problem here (that I have been told) is that some particular apps require installation directly on the template machines i.e. they cannot be published by RDSH or AppVol.

Can anyone confirm if what I understand is correct or give me a heads-up on where I can find more info please?

When I get access to the environment I will try to see if those apps really can only be installed that way or not but for now I just want to confirm if I understand correctly above so I am ready.

I am using VMWare Fusion Professional Version 11.5.1 (15018442) on Mac running MacOS Catalina Version 10.15.7.

I have guest OS (Windows 10) running using VMWare Fusion.

I have my Mac display and another attached monitor. I can use the my guest OS as intented.

My question , can I my Guest OS on both the monitors (One of Laptop Screen and another my Dell Monitor).

I tried using "Use All Display in fullscreen" but it is basically the one display but showing on two displays.  I want to have 2 displays where I can work on each display independently.

Like one display with Application 1 and another display will have Application 2.

Is this possible, if yes, can you provide the steps that I need to ensure?

I know it is kind of a strange situation but my company is looking for information on how to automatically turn on our VMs in the event we have to bring down our entire environment dew to a power outage or site maintenance.

We want to configure this so that vms are powered up in a specific order. DCs, VC, Other high priority, Low Priority.

We are running vsphere 6.7. With out Standard Licensing we do not have DRS. I have been trying to use the VM/host groups and Rules and the vm override priorities but i can't get this to work in our testing environment.

I know the point of HA is to keep everything up and running but it makes it pretty hard to take everything down and bring it back up when you need to.

Any solutions you have I would love to hear about.

Hi,

I've had some users complain about Chrome passwords not being saved and that Chrome is slow to launch, sometimes 2-3 mins.  I've found the user's passwords are being saved and do return on other logins, but it's hit and miss.  I'm guessing it's a timing thing when DEM copies back Chrome settings.  I set up Chrome Import/Export a few years ago with some custom exclusions and I'm guessing with newer versions of Chrome there may be some incompatibilities.  Am I on the right track?  Insights?

I'm using a chromebook connected to an external monitor for my job and we use Horizon for our workspace. The issue is I'm not able to get Horizon pulled up on both screens. I can maximize it on the monitor, but it'll only display there. If I maximize it on the chromebook, itll pull up on both screens but it'll be a blank white screen on both. This issue has affected a few people i work with, but some have no issue. Any ideas?

Well, basically, what I'm trying to do is to connect an equipment that needs to talk to a Windows Host through a Linux (Lubuntu) Guest.

Now a bit more of details:

1 - I have a software that only runs on Windows, and this is running on the Windows host that's also running the VMWare Player;

2 - The equipment talks RS-485, and connects using a PPP link, so I'm using a Serial x USB converter

3 - Using pppd on the Guest, I've created a connection to the equipment board that I need to talk to;

4 - From the Guest, I'm able to ping this equipment's remote IP (192.168.2.2), and I can confirm it by the equipment interace board LEDs...

5 - ... But I can't do it from my Windows Host.

6 - From the Host, I can ping the VM NIC (192.168.2.1) and the local PPP IP (192.168.2.4);

7 - The network card is configured with NAT.

8 - This is the command I'm using to create the PPP link: pppd silent noccp  nodetach noauth local logfile /home/logs/''$timestamp''pppd2.txt nocrtscts defaultroute kdebug 5 debug proxyarp 192.168.2.4:192.168.2.2 /dev/ttyMXUSB2 9600

On MacOS Big Sur Beta 1, receiving the following error when launching any VMs that worked fine prior to update:

"Not enough physical memory is available to power on this virtual machine with its configured settings."

Mac has a total of 16GB of RAM, VM has 4096MB allocated in preferences, and shows that there is still 12GB available for the Mac.  Same issue no matter how much memory is allocated to the VM.

Posting to report to devs as potential bug with new beta, but obviously any suggestions are welcome.

According to the release notes macOS 11 is supported with VMware Fusion 12. Why isn't debugging supported? Can this be fixed?

Thanks to the new release of Vmware 16, the overall performance of most guests is noticeably improved; however, if you download OVA file of the MikroTik RouterOS version 6.46.7(Long-term) from https://www.mikrotik.com/download and open it on windows 10 2004 -no matter the Virtualization Based Security (VBS) is on or off-, you will feel the boot and running speed is comparatively lower than version 15, you can run the very same virtual machine 5 times until v16 boots it once.

I've seen this problem discussed here and elsewhere, but none of the solutions posed have solved it for me.

I went away for a month. Before I left VMWare VMs were starting and running just fine. I came back the other day, and today for the first time tried to start my VMWare WKS 15.5.6 build 16341506 on Windows 10 version 20H2.

When I try to start a VM it displays the "This host does not support Intel VT -x " etc dialogue.

Checked the BIOS, verified that Intel VT -x is indeed enabled (its an old Lenovo workstation, a D20).

Made sure that Hyper V and other Windows virtualization utilities were not enabled.

Uninstalled Windows Subsystem for Linux entirely.

There have been no silent Windows updates except for a Security Update for Microsoft Office 2020 64 bit that was silent and was applied today.

Still no joy, whenever I try to start a VM I get that "host does not support Intel VT -x" dialogue.

Anybody have ideas on where else to look? its possible that there was an anti-virus update (I use eSet) I wonder if that could have done it? I've "paused protection" and nothing changed with VMWare.

The other thing that has changed from a month ago is that I am on a wireless network whereas I used to be on a wired (different) network (i.e. I moved my office). Don't know why that would affect it, or generate that error. FWIW, I've disabled all network adapters except for the two VMNet adapters that appear in the Virtual Netowrk Editor.

By default which vSwitch and Adapter is my iSCSI initiator using? I haven't configured port binding for it yet but I planning to make the move to 10G here pretty soon. I would like to retain my 1gbps NIC for management only but I concerned that iSCSI will be using this NIC as this was the default setup.

I have Apps deployed automatically for Android enterprise managed devices. But recently the Apps aren't pushed automatically anymore.

Hovering over the individual Apps in the device details in the UEM Console, this message is displayed; ' Out of date. App assigned but not installed, last action taken: None. Timestamp:None' .

Both from the WS1 UEM Console and on the device (In the Intelligent Hub App), I can manually install the App from a published list.

What can be the reason the auto deployment is not functioning anymore?

We are running VCSA 6.7.0.4500. When we login to the web interface it is showing an Update to 7.0.1.0000. All of our hosts of course are running ESXi 6.7

Should I upgrade VCSA to version 7 even though we have no plans to upgraded hosts?

i am no expert, so excuse.

Yesterday, i did a fresh install of vcsa with newest aviable iso 6.7U2a (Name: VMware-VCSA-all-6.7.0-13643870.iso , Release-Datum: 2019-05-14, Build-Nummer: 13643870), using tiny installation

on a HP proliant ML110 Gen10 with esxi 6.7 (completely patched up to date).

I used tiny instalaltion (10 gb RAM).

Directly after deployment, i opened the vm appliance management site (port 5480) and checked everything. Summary --> Health Status was all green. Then, still in management site, i searched for updates via URL and downloaded and installed  the found patch (date 2019-05-30), so now the appliance has version 6.7.0.3110 (Build Number 13843380).               

Then i first opened the vsphere web client and everything seemed to be ok. After creating datacenter, joining the windows domain, adding the esxi hosts to vcenter, etc, i reopned the appliance management site and saw that under Summary --> Health Status --> RAM i have following Alarm, that appliance is running low on memory and that i should add more meory to the aplliance. Monitor showed a usage of RAm of about 86%.

I went to web client again, and here it tells that vcenter is only using about 2,5GB of the 10 GB that were assigend during tiny installation.

What i did now (although i think this is useless) to reserve the whole 10gb to the vcenter RAM. But this does not change anything. At the Moment, management site tells RAm usage of 70% (low enough to not trigger Alarm in Health Status) an web client tells usage of 2,8 GB out of 10 GB.

What is going on here? Why do management and web client show totally different RAM usage?

I also have another issue:

in vcenter web client, i get a warning saying:

vsphere Health dedected new issues in your environment. Go to Monitor -> Monitor Health for a detailed description of the issues.

Is this triggreed because of the RAM Alarm in management? I dont have any warning, alerts, problems in webclient.

would like to understand the effect of Kubernetes architecture that VMware is moving towards on vSphere vCentre. Will it have any effect on vcsa functionality and the existing vendor plugins that gets registered with vSphere vCentre server?
