Remove Snapshot and specific tag / Add another Tag on the same command line

Hi guys,

 

I don't find the solution

I hope you could help me!

 

I tried these commands :

$myTag = Get-Tag "Snap_3d"
Get-VM -Tag "Snap_15d" | Get-Snapshot | Remove-Snapshot -Confirm:$False | Get-TagAssignment -Category "Snapshot" 
| Remove-TagAssignment -Confirm:$false 
| New-TagAssignment -Tag $myTagmyTag

 

The goal is:

- Remove snapshots for VMs with "Snap_15d"

- Once it's done, remove this Tag

- Assign Snap_3d tag

 

=> I'd like to perform all this actions on the same command line (Is it possible?)

 

Snap_3d & Snap_15d are in Category Tag: Snapshot

VM crash - application /bin/vmx/ crash

Hello,

 

recently a VM on our host crashed generating following entry in the log

 

An application (/bin/vmx) running on ESXi host has crashed (1 time(s) so far). A core file might have been created at /vmfs/volumes/696f7fa4-84e29ef0/ISTANBUL_DROP201_W2K12_R2_tpl/vmx-zdump.000.

 

The dump file is attached.

 

Can you please help me to understand what happened and how to avoid this situation in the future? Any help appreciated.

Memory ballooning

We're running a 5 host cluster, 6.5 U2 and the amount of memory available seems fine however a number of vm's are being adversely affected by memory ballooning.

 

If there is enough memory available why is it using ballooning?

Processor compatibility issue warning on update to ESXi 6.5

Hello,

 

During update to ESXi 6.5, I have a warning about a possible compatibility issue with my processor (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5450). I cancelled the update. It works fine right now with ESXi 6.0. Is there really a risk to make the update ? Is there a temporary issue or the compatibility with the process has been removed ?

Status of other host hardware objects error after upgrade to ESXi 6.7

Hi Guys,

 

I get a error message at vCenter 6.7.0U1 on ESXi host after upgrade ESXi 6.5 to 6.7 on HP DL380 Gen10.

 

VMware-ESXi-6.7.0-9484548-HPE-Gen9plus-670.10.3.5.6-Sep2018.iso

It suspect there have "System Chassis 1 UID" Unknown as below.

I check with HP iLO, can't found any related to system chassis, I all 3 ESXi 6.7 get the same issue after upgrade to ESXi 6.7.

 

Any idea?

KS.cfg issues with GPT

Hello!

 

     I'm trying to install using a USB drive and I've found something I can't get around. I've verified that my ks.cfg file works.

 

Steps:
Rufus install 6.7u1

Copy ks.cfg to root

change kernelopt=runweasel  to kernelopt=ks=usb:/ks.cfg within efi\boot\boot.cfg

Doing this using the MBR setting within Rufus it works fine. I can boot and the kickstart runs without issue even within a UEFI boot

When I use the GPT option within rufus I get the following Error:

exception.HandledError: Error (See Log for more info)

cannot find kickstart file on usb with path -- /ks.cfg

 

 

I'm trying to figure out if anyone knows what i'm missing or what my issue is.

Workstation 15.1.0 Guest Error

I recently upgraded to Workstation 15.1.0 build-13591040 and now none of my guest VMs will accept the new VMtools.  The existing VMtools gets removed, the new VMtools begins installation but then displays a message that the previous version of VMtools in unable to be removed and the installation stops.  I am unable to install either the latest or prior VMtools, leaving the guests inoperable from a production standpoint.  Prior version of VMtools is 10.3.10.12406962 from March of this year.

Upgrade VCenter from 6.5 to 6.7 & keeping the same FQDN of the Appliance (VM)

Hello Support,

 

I'm planning to upgrade our VCenter 6.5 Appliance (Version 6.5.0.30000 Build 14156547) to the latest VCenter 6.7.0U2c (VMware-VCSA-all-6.7.0-14070457).

 

First of all, is this compatible with my current version / build number.

 

Secondly, my main question, I was testing the upgrade on our lab environment. It was asking me to put a temporary IP Address, which is okay, so it doesn't conflict with the current IP address of vcenter. However, when it prompts to put in a new VCenter FQDN, I put it changes and creates a totally new appliance, how can we keep the same FQDN, because that can cause problems since all my hosts are same FQDN.

 

Please, help.

Continuous Problem when switching between host and guest

Dear All

 

I am using Vmware Fusion 11.1 and running a Windows10 guest on a 2018 MacBook Pro. I created the windows10 guest virtual machine on a MacBook Air 2015 and recently switched.

Shortly after switching to a new computer the problem started. Every time I switch between host and guest Vmware Fusion stalls and the guest is unusable while the physical Vmware process runs at 100% CPU. When I send countless CTRL-ALT-DEL commands to the guest and finally after 5-10 min task manager comes up it works again. But this is really annoying me to death. Searching the log I see the following timeout:

 

2019-08-08T18:46:59.602+01:00| vmx| I125: GuestRpcSendTimedOut: message to toolbox-dnd timed out.

 

Does anyone have an idea or had similar issues? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Unable to execute guest with custom specific virtual network (i.e: VMnet2) because network adapter always switch to Bridged (Automatic) when guest starts.

Hope someone can help me. I'm unable to execute any recently converter Windows guest using a specific virtual network adapter, like VMnet2. If I edit guest settings and choose to use any custom network, when I start the guest it always switch the network adapter to Bridged (Automatic).

 

I also notice that whenever I change any other Guest settings, the configuration of the network adapter also change to Bridged (Automatic).

Any idea why this is happening?

We have Vcenter 6.0 with 5 host also running 6.0 now we want to upgrade from 6.0 to 6.7 Vcenter and HOSTS as well. So please help me and share the steps guide. Appreciate for prompt response.

Guest operating system has crashed

Hi,

 

A member on our team recently lost some of his work and was not able to log into his VM. When we checked the recent events on the ESXi web application, it showed there was a crash on 8/14/19.

 

We have not been able to determine what caused the crash. I've attached what we see on the VM log for that day.

 

We appreciate any support we can get on this.

vSphere Web client it's is very slow ( vCenter 6.5)

Hi All,

 

Vmware strictly used announced to used the vsphere web client from 6.5 but vSphere Web client it's is very slow the console is very difficult to manage the activities, Sometime adobe flash reloading else required information taking time to load, re login the web client console,Hence i am trying to use Html 5 web client but some plugin are not support example : SRM, Vsphere replication

cant convert to smb share

hi,

I installed VMware vcenter converter 6.2.0 build 8466193 (latest one) which has in log history fix for smb share I had.

 

Conversion of a powered on Windows machine to an SMB share fails with the following error message: Unable to obtain the lock on virtual disks.

This issue is resolved in this release.

 

even that issue was fixed I have another issue which is thrown once I execute convertion ... with status FAILED: Insufficient permissions to access the source.

VMRC - DOD Alternate CAC not working.

I'm building a master image for my new Horizon 7.9 deployment with Dell Wyse P25 Firmware 6.4; however I have not made it too far.

 

I have just built a fresh AGM OEM/Standalone 1809 1.0.4 Windows 10 VMware VM.  I have only loaded the Active Client v 7.1.0.244 and my CAC reader I'm using is SCR3310. I have 2 CAC readers, one built into my laptop and the SCR3310 connected to a USB port.  I'm using the VMware Remote Console to try and log into the machine with my Administrative CAC; however I get an error telling me "No valid certificates were found on this smart card.  Please try another smart card or contact your administrator." If I use my normal DoD CAC it reads those cards with no issues.

 

Here are some steps I have done to try and trouble shoot the issue.

 

- Launch VMRC

- Connect CAC reader from VMRC

- Insert my Admin CAC

- Then I get the error.

 

- When I log in locally to the machine:

- I see the CAC reader in device manager

- I insert the CAC and it shows up in device manager

- Open ActivClient, it sees the CAC reader

- It starts to scan my card, it scan's then it disconnects the card reader and card from device manager and I get a Windows Box telling me to connect a card reader.  The reader is still connected in VMRC, but not in Windows device manager.

 

If I use RDP I can get in fine with my Admin CAC.

 

I have not loaded the View client as of yet, because I need to be able to log in with my Admin CAC.

I dont have full requirements yet but I do have a constraint of physical rack space for a customer where ive got to fit in 2000 concurrent users into if i can 1 rack, 2 max. This is going to be a mix of application delivery and virtual desktops (instant clones). I was thinking of putting a blade chassis in for task/knowledgeworkers who don't require graphics acceleration, then some beefy 2U servers with 2 28 core CPUs and NVIDIA M10's the rest of the users.

 

I was thinking of 2 clusters for blades / 2U & separate pools for basic VD's and GPU VD's, is this viable? Any recommendations or risks would be helpful!

Driver PNP Watchdog Error BSOD error on W10 1809 with vmware tools installed.

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone encountered Windows 10 BSOD after installing VMware 10.3.10 tools?

Regardless of any version of vmware tools installed, I do not get the BSOD.

The winver is MS W10 version 1809 OS Build 17763.678

ESXi host connectivity with vCenter Server

I have health check warning in vCenter 6.7 health saying:

 

This issue occurs when the UDP heartbeat message sent by ESX/ESXi hosts is not received by vCenter Server. If vCenter Server does not receive the UDP heartbeat message, it treats the host as not responding. ESX/ESXi hosts send heartbeats every 10 seconds and vCenter Server has a window of 60 seconds to receive the heartbeats. This behavior can be an indication of a congested network between the ESX/ESXi hosts and vCenter Server. Click the Ask VMware link above for more details and a resolution.

 

I have checked everything, it seems there are no network connectivity issues.

Which log can help me to find which exact host have this "missing UDP heartbeat message" issue?
