App Volumes Agent Fails to Connect to Managers

About 5% of the time we have app volumes agents on machines just fail to connect to the app volumes manager.  I get the following error, but it doesn't make sense because it clearly has network access seeing as it becomes available in Horizon View just fine and users can log into the machine via View just fine, but they don't get appstacks because the App Volumes agent has decided not to connect to the manager for whatever reason.  Once in the desktop you can even go to the app volumes manager website just fine with no errors so it isn't like there is just an issue to the app volumes manager.  The funny thing is it says it waits 5 minutes, but I'm almost positive that it doesn't actually do that and it fails out in far less than that.  Even more interesting is now that the app volumes agent can have computer and user assigned appstacks we have one appstack that is assigned to the computer and the computer will still actually get that appstack AND STILL FAIL to connect to the manager.  How is that even possible?  How can an agent that claims to have failed to connect to the manager still get an appstack applied to it?  Of course when a user logs in though they don't get their user assigned appstacks,so...

Anyone have any ideas as to a fix?  As you can see in the logs certificate validation is already off since that causes all kinds of issues too, just apparently not this one.  I have also made sure the network cards can't be put to sleep via power management.  Our desktops are instant clone desktops that are refreshed every log off.

ESXi 6.5 iSCSI Software Adapter - Status: Offline

Hi all,

After rebooting my whole lab for maintenance, I am getting an Offline status on the iSCSI Software Adapter (as image attached), I have tried:

  • Disable and enable the adapter from CLI
  • Rebooted the ESXi several times.
  • Update to ESXi 6.7. As this was the solution in this post.

There is another command line I can try to change the iSCSI adapter status? Don't know what else can be done, any pieces of advice are greatly appreciated.

Change NAS and keep same VMs from one esxi-server to another

Hi,

Now lets say we have esxi1 with vcenter , running VMs from a NAS. Is it possible to disconnect this NAS from esxi1, then connect it to another Esxi on another building (with other vCenter, another environment) and register VMs on new esxi? Is it going to be easy or should I make it another way?

Frank

Topic Name : VMware Horizon Client for Windows User Guide

Publication Name : VMware Horizon Client for Windows User Guide

Product/Version : VMware Horizon Client for Windows/4.7

Question :

I have found on my Horizon client that when I drag my mouse, for example, to select icons on the desktop, the cursor jumps or skips as I drag. This didn't happen at first, and my IT support told me to reinstall the Horizon client once it became an issue (only a few days later). I reinstalled, connected, and the mouse behaved correctly. Now it's the next day and the mouse issue has reappeared.

Get-CisService Appliance Health

Hey Guys,

I try to request some information from the vCenter VAMI, like health status.

But the Get-CisService command seems not to work as I want.

First I connect successfully to the CisServer with Connect-CisServer with Administrator@vsphere.local.

After that I want to use Get-CisService to retrieve the general system health.

(Get-CisService -Name 'com.vmware.appliance.health.system' -Server $global:DefaultCisServers).get()

But it throws an authorization error.

I use PowerCLi 10.1.0

I´m really sure it worked in a previous release.

The exception is attached as screenshot.

Hope you have any suggestions or may a better way to get the informations.

VMware Player 14 Not loading Virtual Machine Even After Confirming It Was Installed

$

I have 64 bit VMware® Workstation 14 Player version 14.0.0 build-6661328 installed on Linux Mint 18.3 x64. My laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad z510 and I've made sure the virtual machine option in BIOS is enabled. The installation of VMware Player 14 on Mint was successful and VMware Player also opens without issues.

Whenever I choose "Create a New Virtual Machine", it lets me go thru all the appropriate steps. It allows me to pick an ISO and goes thru the full installation process without issues. VMware Player confirms that the virtual machine was installed successful and the virtual machine even boots fine after it's done with the initial installation.

However, the minute I shutdown the virtual machine, I can no longer open it again. It's not listed in the Home panel either. I've tried using the "Open a Virtual Machine" option, but nothing happens when I choose the vmx file.

I get the same symptom when using the ISO file of Kali Linux (kali-linux-2017.3-amd64.iso) and when using the virtual machine version of Kali Linux (kali-linux-2017.3-vm-amd64.ova)

Attached is a screen shot of the files found in the vmware folder (I believe these are for kali-linux-2017.3-vm-amd64.ova) . I've also included a screen shot of the empty Home panel.

Can someone please help? Don't understand why this is happening if all signs confirmed the virtual machine was installed. Selection_001.pngSelection_002.png

VMWare Player 14 on Linux cannot create or open Virtual Machines

I just completed a brand new installation of Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon and download and installed VMWare Player 14.

After creating a new Virtual Machine in vmplayer the files are created on disk, but it does not show up in the list of virtual machines to select. An error is written to the console: "Fail to open executable: No such file or directory"

The same happens when you try to Open a virtual machine and browser to the vmx file.

I can still launch the virtual machine from the commandline by specifying the .vmx file, just can't open it using the GUI to edit it.

Já exportei as maquinas do oracle VM para a OVA e OVF nas versões 1 e 2

vRops 6.7 and memory usage

$

Hi everybody!

We are trying the new version of vmware vRops 6.7 and there are some metric compared with the previous version that are very confuse, one of them is the "memory usage".

In vRops 6.6 the metric "memory usage" is the "guest memory", that's ok. Now you read the release notes about 6.7

"

The Memory|Usage (%) metric of Virtual Machines considers memory usage from Guest OS perspective and not from hypervisor perspective.

In previous releases, the Memory|Usage (%) metric of virtual machines referred to the amount of memory that is actively used, as estimated by VMkernel based

on recently touched memory pages.

This was different from what you would see inside the Guest OS as a memory usage.

The formula of metric Memory|Usage (%) is now changed to (Memory|Utilization (KB) / Memory|Total Capacity (KB)) * 100.  Here the newly introduced Memory|Utilization (KB) metric depends on the Guest OS metric,

which is provided through VMware Tools, and is available since vCenter Server 6.0 Update 1, ESXi 6.0 Update

"

One example comparing vROPSa 6.6 and 6.7 in my enviroment

I have a VM1 with 16384 MB Ram Memory Size

VM1--> vROPS 6.6

Memory usage-->21.79 %

Memory recommendation size--> 7413 MB RAM

Active guest memory-->3768 RAM

VM1-> vROPS 6.7

Memory usage-->87.54 %

Memory recommendation size--> 16777 MB RAM

Active guest memory-->3768 RAM

will this be the topic? Because the are a lot of difference between 7,4 GB and 16 GB in recommendations terms. I have to purchase a new hardware....

Best regards

Hi,

I have installed 3 ESXi server connected to a vCenter on a 4th server. The three servers are running ESXi from USB. Now I get this error message: System logs on host [...] are stored on non-persistent storage.

Of course I have read the following VMware Knowledge Base

I did exactly as on video: Configuring a persistent scratch location using the vSphere Client - YouTube

Now I only have the vsanDatastore, as all disks on all ESXi servers are using all the disks.

Unfortunately I am getting, the image you see - I can not find any solution on google either. I would be grateful if anybody has any solution.
