Hi.

1) I've virtualized (P2V) a physical Windows server 2003 machine by means VMWare Converter.

Then I've tried to import it and run in VMWare Workstation12 and all works without issue.

(with exception of this - skippable - error:

2017-04-10_184123.png

2) Than I've changed hardware compatibilty by means VM > Manage:

2017-04-10_183940.png

so that the VM will be compatible wirh my ESXi 5.1 server

3) At this pont I've copied all VM's file to the ESXi 5.1 datastore

4) Then I've tried to start the copied VM on the ESXi 5.1 server but this error (not skippaple) is showed on the screen and I can't start the VM on the ESXi 5.1 server

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

Boot takes way too long on ESXi 6.0 host

Gentlermen and Ladies

I am currently running a 24 node cluster using Dell M630 blades in M1000 Blade Chassis, I am running ESXi 6.0.0. I have 14 RDM drives attached to each of the 24 nodes for two separate MSCS SQL clusters each Cluster has 6 RDM's for a total of 12 mappings per node. I have seen the articles on the RDMs causing an extremely long boot first, it takes 30 to 40 mins just to restart and then the Node gets stuck at VMW_SATP_ALUA for a majority of the boot sequence.

Can anyone tell me what the remedy is and is there a written procedure for fixing it

AV 2.12 Error following latest Windows Server update - 'Sync computer "xxx || conflicted 1290" with Active Directory'

I'm running the latest AppVol 2.12 with instant clone VMs and following the January Windows Server Update I see several instances of the error message above in my Pending Actions log.

The Dashboard also reports an increasing Computer Utilization count of Online Computers which no longer exist.

The specific System Messages being generated by AV are:

Error perform_search (exception Encoding::CompatibilityError): (giving up)

Job error: Sync Computer #<Thread:0x00000000a7cec0> incompatible character encodings: ASCII-8BIT and UTF-8

Is this a known problem?  Any recommended course of action?

App Volumes 2.10 and Office 2016

Hello everyone

I'm trying to appstack Office 2016. The creation and assignment of the appstack works fine, but as soon as I open the application itself (e.g. Word, Excel), the Office configuration dialog pops up and an error occurs.

I followed the instructions as in the user guides (not opening the Office application during the provisioning process, and set the activation through the kms server).

Office 2010 and Office 2013 work fine though. So I'm guessing Office 2016 isn't fully supported in AppVolumes 2.10?

Hi All!

Which tool or utility can be used for analyze support bundle?

In an ideal it would be restored a configuration as in the vsphere client. Or like infrastructure objects tree.

UEM Deletes Favorites in IE11

UEM deletes Favorites every log off. They vanish from our Network folder. The odd part it's only at the top layer. Favorites will save if you put them in a folder. In my attached screenshot. Everything inside the folders Favorites, Favorites Bar, and Links for United States stays. However my Google link deletes. I've tried with Folder Redirection and messing with the default IE config file. However, I can't find any help.

Currently this my Internet Explorer config file and I have folder redirection configured for favorites..

Hi all,

This ones got me a little stumped, hoping someone has some more experience.

There are no other errors in the worker log to give any clues, so far i have tried the following

Actions

  • Rerun job a couple more times - failed
  • Convert only C:\ - failed
  • Run Check disk /R on C:\ - failed

Points to consider.

  • Next step would be to install converter locally but i want to avoid this for now.
  • No workarounds to be deployed, i.e. use acronis - must be able to proceed with converter alone
  • Normally a checkdisk resolves this issue for me.

Limiting Alerts to a specific time window

Is there a way to specify alerts to only pop-up during a specific time? Or, in other words, can I exclude certain alerts to popup during certain times?

I actually thought this is integrated for sure, but was unable to find it.

A basic example for this feature would be high read/write latency during backup window. In such scenarios, i do not want to get this alerts triggered and as these symptoms only popup during a specific time i would be able to exclude them easily by a setting an exclusion time window.

If there is no way to configure this on alers/symptoms, is it at least somehow possible to configure the (e-mail) notification to not send the alerts?

Autod deploy vSphere 5.5 Statefull Install HP

Hi

I am trying to use auto deploy to do a statefull install to a HP sd card (USB connected) if I choose to do "Enable statefull installs to a USB disk on the host" the host boots loads esxi and then reboots and so it continues forever...

If I enable statefull insall on the host and choose local  or HP iLO as an option the host boots in memory but when I do esxcfg-mpath -l the path to the ush disk is dead(same with esxicli)

if I use the same downloaded version but the iso image (hpe-esxi-5-5 update 3) I am able to install esxi on the sd card without any problem. and esxcfg-mpath -l tells me the path is working fine.

I am trying this on an HP 460c gen9

What can be wrong?

Agent Unreachable after logoff of linked clone, OS has 169.254 apipa address

$

Hi everyone,

We've noticed some Win7 linked clones remain in the "Agent Unreachable" state for a while before getting refreshed. We think we narrowed it down to these clones ending up with a 169.254 (apipa) address instead of a DHCP address on our network. Our lease times are only an hour so I believe the clones in this state try to get a DHCP address 30 minutes later and it fixes itself. If we manually go into a clone exhibiting this behavior and try and get a valid DHCP address using ipconfig it gets one and the system gets refreshed.

Here are some things we've researched already.

1. The systems only have one virtual NIC and it is a VMXNET3 NIC

2. Within "Edit Settings" for a VM it is showing the NIC as "Connected" and is set to "Connect at Power on"

3. The VMware View agent service is running within the VM

4. The VM is listed as running the latest, current, VMware Tools inside of vCenter

5. This has happened on different ESXi hosts so it doesn't seem limited to one host.

6. We checked the DHCP scope on the DHCP server, of the 900+ addresses only 8% are being used so there are plenty of addresses available

7. As mentioned earlier, if you go into the VM's console and do an ipconfig /release then /renew it gets a valid address and completes the refresh process

8. Within the virtual network switch the number of ports (120 per switch) is well above the number of VM's on the switch (at the most about 15 VMs).

9. We checked the DHCP server logs and it doesn't look like the VM's are making a request for a new address on it's own (at least not during the logoff time frame).

The View environment is version 6.1.1 build 2769403

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :-)

Checking health of PSCs behind Load Balancer

$

So I am wondering increasingly if my other issue, Cross vCenter vMotion fails, is due to an underlying issue with the PSCs as I can find no issue with the code (or other peoples code).

Currently have two vCenters in seperate physical sites.  Each site has an external PSC.  Logins to vCenter are handled by placing both these PSCs behind a netscaler load balancer.  Our "DR" side is the primary PSC in the pair with the local one to me being the "secondary".

I logged in to the "DR" PSC and checked the replication partners using vcdrepadmin:

./vdcrepadmin -f showpartners -h drpsc1.domain.com -u administrator -w [password]

ldap://invpsc1.domain.com

ldap://invmumpsc1.domain.com    <------ Being decommissioned

If I run it against the other PSC listed above I get:

./vdcrepadmin -f showpartners -h invpsc1.domain.com -u administrator -w [password]

Vdcrepadmin failed. Error [Server down] [9127]

I am unsure though if this is an error because the other PSC is secondary when setup behind a load balancer or if we do actually have a PSC replication issue.  I have tried rebooting the invpsc1 VM but the same result is returned.  Anyone using load balanced PSCs able to confirm what output they get from the vdcrepadmin commands?

UPDATE: So did some digging around the PSC and a lot of the logs files stop about a month ago.  Ran some checks on services and the bulk are in a stopped state.  Looks like a failure we had a month ago (snapshot consolidation after backup killed the VM) has also corrupted the PSC.  Am awaiting VMware to investigate the cause but think I can just deploy a new one and follow the same KB to deploy behind a load balancer but just running the scripts on the secondary node.  Anyone had to do this before?

Hello,

I have setup a win2012r2 server as RDP server with local defined printer.

when I launch vmware horrizon client 4.3 in console mode of win 2012r2 server, my local default printer appears in remote VM, as expected.

but, when I run the same client through a mstsc session, local printer does not appear in remote VM.

is this a known issue ?

any workaround ?

thanks for your help.

our backup server is leaving snapshot files in virtual machines.

through edit settings > i can see VMs are on snapshot files like this (/VM-Name-000002.vmdk ) but snapshot manager dont show any snapshot.

consolidation message appears but when i do i fails.

In backup logs i can see these messages

CVMWareInfo::_RemoveVMSnapshot() - Failed to consolidate VM [VM-NAME] Guid [5023f0d3-c578-9e78-503d-a9c1af302XXX], attempt [0]

CVMWareInfo::_RemoveVMSnapshot() - Consolidating VM disks for VM [VM-NAME] Guid [5023f0d3-c578-9e78-503d-a9c1af302XXX]

if i perform storage vmotion then it solve the problem but is there any permanent solution.I have seen tons of posts but none have a solid solution.

Storage size for VCSA 6.5?

Hi,

how is the sizing of a vcsa 6.5 done correct?

Dokumentation says:

How to size a vcsa embeded SSO, with vcenter HA, with VUM for an environment of up to 4000 VMs?

What is the meaning of the "Default Storage Size "Large Storage Size" and "X-Large Storage" Size?

If there is a sizing tool or a documentation on how to do that, I haven't found it .

How to svmotion MSCS clustered VM's using VMDK's configured in physical bus sharing mode (vCenter Server DB nodes)

I have a situation here that I am facing and need assistance guidance from experts in this community.

I have two VM's running Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 edition and configured MSCS suing shared VMDK's in physical bus sharing mode. These VM's are running Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and clustered database nodes for my vCenter Server 5.5 (and ESXi hosts 5.5 U3). My VC is not-clustered by my VC database nodes are MS clustered.

My intention is to storage migrate VM disk files to SSD storage from non-SSD storage (current location).

Please suggest suitable way to do so.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Amit

Recently upgraded to VMware 6.0 and I need to download the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone. The download center took me to the Download Packages and had VMware vCenter Converter 6.1.1 highlighted. Not sure this will work with the VMware 6. Should I download this or the VMware vCenter Converter 6.0.0.

Thanks
