3D settings in pool vs. parent

Hello,

 

I have a pool of linked clones, and the parent has 3D support unchecked; so, of course, do the clones. Users are experiencing an isuse with a program that I think is due to not having 3D support, so I'm trying to enable software 3D in the pool, which I've done in View. The issue persists. I'm wondering if the VMs not having the 3D support enabled is preventing it from being used even by View. If so, I'm guessing I need to recompose the pool (or delete/rebuild all the VMs in the pool) with 3D rendering enabled on the parent?

Flash plugin in AppStack causing freezing/crashing of VM

Hello:

 

We've been having an issue that has been going on for a long time, in App Volumes 2.11 and still with 2.12.  I am trying to create an AppStack with Firefox, Chrome, and the Flash Plugin together.   I have done this and deployed it, but the problem is that the Flash Plugin will freeze in both Chrome and Firefox at times, and in most cases will start responding after waiting 20 seconds or so.  It is also very slow in some Flash-based websites as well.  There have been a few occasions, that it will cause a complete VM crash (the PCoIP session will terminate), and applications are closed as well because the VM actually crashes and reboots itself.

 

We are also using Writable Volumes, and the issue seems to happen with users that have the Writable Volumes as opposed to full clones that do not have Writable Volumes attached, but I am not sure if that is actually part of the issue.  I have been trying to figure out where the issue is, but so far no luck.  We do have all of our Writable Volumes attaching with a driveletter (although it is hidden) via the registry setting for AppVol, on our golden master image.  The issue is definitely AppVol related because I can install the exact same versions of Firefox, Chrome, Flash Plugin in a full clone VM and there is absolutely no delay or issues like there are when they are in the AppStack.

 

Has anybody else been able to deploy Chrome, Firefox, and Flash Plugin within an AppStack successfully without issues, and if so how did you do it?  I am looking for any suggestions.

Moving VMs between protection groups

I have a recovery plan that includes VMs from multiple protection groups and defines their startup order.  Each protection group has its own datastore.  So when I storage vmotion a VM between datastores, it also changes protection groups.  If I storage vmotion a VM between datastores, do I need to update anything in my recovery plan?

Export from Esxi 6.5 using web gui

I've done some searching but found no real hits.  I'm running the free base version of ESXi 6.5.0-4564106 (but has also failed during trial) and trying to export a vm using the web gui.  Each and every time no matter what browser used (IE or Chrome) the download of the .vmdk file will time out at about ~10 gb.  The option is given to resume but never does, eventually stating it was not possible.  I've seen older posts and the fix was in new version (4.1) but this is current version minus the patch.  Has anyone else experienced this and if so is there a workaround?  I have set the Application timeout to off so it shouldnt be related to the browser inactivity.  I dont see a way to export an ovf/ova in the gui.  The only workaround I found was to use the vsphere client for 6.0 which kind of defeats the purpose of having a web interface.  Any feedback or thoughts are appreciated.

i dont really understand, the VM is on and no alarms etc, no other operations running on the VM, has anyone else experienced this?

copy vmdk to new datastore

Hello,

 

I have a virtual machine with three hard disks, 1 - c:\ Operational System (datastore 1), 2 - d:\ Databse (datastore 2) and 3 - e:\ some backups (datastore 3). Now I have to move my vmk from datastore 2 to new datastore (5).

I´ve already created a new datastore in vmware.

 

Below the script to copy:

 

-Turn Windows server 2012 off (virtual machine)

-Vmware  vsphere client 5.5 -

     rigth click in the virtual machine- edit settings - select hard disk - remove - remove from virtual machine - ok

     configuration - open the datastore 2 - copy the vmdk

     configuration - open the datastore 5 - create a folder - Paste the vmdk

     after the copy - right click in the virtual machine- edit settings - add - hard disk - use and existing virtual disk - browse datastore 5 and ok.

- Turn Windows server 2012 on (virtual machine)

 

Is ti correct?

Windows 10 VM network connection goes unplugged when docking iPhone or connecting HotSpot via USB

I have a 2015 MacBook pro running VMware Fusion with a Windows 10 VM.  The VM is configured for internet sharing aka NAT.  Service order has Wi-Fi prioritized above iPhone USB and HotSpot.

 

When I disconnect or connect my iPhone or HotSpot via USB the VM loses connectivity to the local gateway managed by VMware.

 

Any ideas?  It's annoying as I may dock/undock my phone and it kills my Skype/Oracle/Remote Desktop/etc connections every time.Screen Shot 2017-03-31 at 10.11.01 AM.png

LDAP user not assigned Administrator Role

vCenter Server Appliance 5.5

 

I'm having an issue when trying to authenticate to the vCenter MOB with my LDAP account.  I'm added to the administrator group on my LDAP Server, I can log into the web client with my account, but I don't see my account listed under the "Administrator" Role.  I've added my user account to the Administrator Group. Are there any other requirements on the VC or LDAP Server side to get my account added to the Admin Role?

 

I also can't login to the System page using LDAP even though I successfully enabled LDAP.

 

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Не проходит развёртывание vRealize Log Insight из ova

При попытке установить триальную версию vRealize Log Insight на ESXi 6.0 U3 происходит зависание процесса. После того как виртуальная машина развёрнута и запущена. На "экране отображается" двухцветное окно без какого либо теста. Курсор не активен. Пинг по назначенному адресу идёт, веб интерфейс не активен.

Прошло несколько часов, изменений в логах нет. Мониторинг показывает загрузку процессора 1,4 и 2 Г оперативки.

В чём может быть причина и как исправить.

Установка на другой ESXi вызывает такую же ошибку.

Certs for all componets

Hi guru

 

I am getting, the warning that the Horizon cert will expire, I believe that when we installed this structure we use the internal Cert but now is that time to renew.-

 

I would like to know what kind of webserver is use, so I can get the right Cert for all these components, can someone please point me to the right direction.

Trouble with ethernet not reestablishing connection after drop

I am working on a system running ESXi 6.0 with Intel i210 ethernet.  It has an issue where if the network connection drops it doesn't reestablish connection when it is restored without rebooting the whole system.  I am now working on setting up the second network adapter and I have it plugged into a switch and both server and switch ports have link lights but it is listed as down, and running cli commands to force it up don't work.  I wasn't the one to initially set up this server so it is possible it was misconfigured somewhere.  The vmkernel.log shows the error >igb 0000:08:00.0: Hardware Error when I try to initialize the interface. Can anyone advise how to fix this?

How to list ESX Host CDP info using new-VIProperty

I'm trying to use new-viproperty to extract ESX Host physical NIC port information.

 

There is a lot of info on how to do it using get-view and queryHint but I'm trying to use VIProperty.

 

I have built the property and can see the physical NIC's but can't seem to figure out how to get the port information.  Can anyone help me with some progress?

 

New-VIProperty -Name PhysNic -ValueFromExtensionProperty config.network.pnic.device

 

get-vmhost 10.10.20.121 | select physnic

Snapshot script for multiple snapshots? Example in post.

Hello,

 

I'm hoping somebody can lend me a hand or give me some direction.  There are a lot of snapshot monitoring scripts out there, we use a few of them in our environment.  What I'm looking to do though, is run a script that will find all virtual machines that have more than one snapshot and email a report out.  The script below looks like it would be a good start, but I don't have enough knowledge in PowerCLI to have it report only VMs with multiple snapshots.  I'm sure I can figure out the email portion but the first part I'm looking for a little help.

Discussion: Automation- Api's vs. PowerCLI

This is a topic I've been thinking a lot about lately as I've been reading blogs, listening to podcasts, talking to peers, etc. If we are talking about automation, strictly automation, does it matter whether you use an API or PowerCLI? I was listening to a Datanaut's podcast today where the guest was the creator of Vagrant and Terraform and to paraphrase he said "if a product doesn't have a full API it doesn't exist. If the goal is to automate, to me this sounds like an ideological statement. If you can set variables, run declarative code, get results,does it matter if you use an API or PowerShell?

 

So what I'd like to know is, what am I missing? Is it just a comfort thing where Dev's like Api's and Ops may be more comfortable with PowerShell? Is this API movement just the latest thing?

 

I have opinions on these questions, but I'd like to hear from others. I hope that I don't break any rules by doing this, but I'd like to get a variety of opinions so I will likely cross post this in the Code community (if a moderator sees this and can help me with, I'd appreciate the assistance).

 

Please share your thoughts, I'd really like to get some different thoughts on the matter.

ESXi 6.0 Update 3

My ESXi-hosts are running ESXi 6.0 Update 2 and I want to update these servers to Update 3. When I run "Scan for updates" in Update Manager the update 3 is available. The servers were installed by using HP Customized Image, so my question is: Should I run the update from the package shown in update manager, or should I download the update 3 from HP and use that?

Black Backgrounds in Microsoft Outlook and Skype for Business

I recently upgraded both my Mac OS to 10.12.4 and Vmware Fusion to 8.5.6.  Since those upgrades I am now seeing strange background issues in Microsoft Outlook and Skype for Business (see the attached screenshot).  The background of the application will at times turn black.  I'm running windows 7 professional as my VM.  Anyone else had an issue like this and know how to resolve them?

esxi 6.5: Windows 2012/2016 "A media driver your computer needs is missing"

Today I installed a fresh homelab with esxi 6.5. All with default settings.

After created successfully an Ubuntu server and Windows 10 workstation I was ready to setup a new Windows 2016 server. Right after starting up the server it comes with:

I thought I did something wrong with selecting the SCSI Controller. What ever I choose to use I always get this message.

Tried the paravirtual SCSI and browsed the VMware tools to the driver, but same error.

Tried Windows 2012R2 and same message.

 

With esxi 6 never had this problem

 

Anyone having a tip to look further?

Language Pack on Windows 10 LTSB

When configuring ESP language pack on Windows 10 LTSB Professional Edition on the master image, the linked clones do not have the ESP language option configured on the operating system.  lTSB version is a slim down version of Windows 10 without the all the extra features. The behavior does not occur on full version of Windows 10 Professional edition.

Disabling vSphere Flash Read Cache of a running virtual machine

Hi All,

 

I am having a virtual machine of  Oracle Linux wherein the HDD is having a setting of Virtual Flash read cache Enabled and is configure with 5 GB size. But when I am doing the vMotion of that VM its throwing me an error "The available virtual flash resource '0' MB is not sufficient for the requested operation '5120 MB' "

 

I want to know what will impact to my Linux machine if I just disable the Virtual Flash read cache. I checked with my ESXi host and its not having any Virtual Flash Resource configured at ESXi level.

 

Please help me in knowing  can I easily disable the Flash read cache from a running VM without any impact?
