Just getting started with VSAN and have a question. I noticed on a VM that has a 100GB vDisk that the VMDK actually shows as 200GB when I look at the VSAN datastore. I have FTT=1, so I understand there will be 2 copies of the VM (200GB) I guess I don't completely understand why they exist in a single VMDK. I would have expected to see 2 - 100GB vDisks, not 1 -200GB vDisk. Can someone shed some light on this? Is it because we can't have two VMDKs with the same name?

I'm trying to appstack Office 2016. The creation and assignment of the appstack works fine, but as soon as I open the application itself (e.g. Word, Excel), the Office configuration dialog pops up and an error occurs.
I followed the instructions as in the user guides (not opening the Office application during the provisioning process, and set the activation through the kms server).
Office 2010 and Office 2013 work fine though. So I'm guessing Office 2016 isn't fully supported in AppVolumes 2.10?

Trying 6.5 in my testlab and I'm trying to get the application HA working. But it keeps breaking everytime I run it!
The error is "A general system error occurred: Failed to ssh connect peer node x.x.x.x"
It will successfully clone the Peer node, but then when it goes to ssh in for whatever reason it cannot. I've made sure SSH is enabled on the node, but it's all to no avail.
If anyone has any suggestions, I've given myself a headache trying to think of things.
Is it possible to create a report for what VMs are on what datastores?
Hello everybody,
After a reboot of my test environment the OSPF relationship between my Edge and LR has stopped working.
When I turn off the firewall on the Edge appliance the neigboring works. This is strange as the defaul rule for the firewall is accept all.
When the firewall is enabled the Edge sees the LR in Init/DRother mode, leading me to believe the OSPF traffic from the Edge is never leaving the appliance VM (perhaps because of some hidden egress firewall?)
Last time i solved it by redeploying the VM but that isn't really sustainable.
Has anyone seen this before and maybe found a solution?

I performed storage VMotion to new EMC Unity Data Store, i get below errors in the vcenter server:
"com.vmware.sps.fault.qsconnectionException"
"A general system error occurred: Failed to write to C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\journal\1490963912.11126: Error writing file. There is not enough space on the disk."
I have enough disk space in the new Data store, but still got the error, i found VMW KBA:
I understand the issue described in these KBA, but my concern is: these VMs are moved to new Data stores despite of errors. So, is VM safe in the new DS? will there be any issue later for VM operations because of this inventory service issue?

We created a new Storage Policy based Protection Group. The group contains 6 VM's with no errors.
We have triple checked correct replication datastore's are tagged, linked to storage policy, and VM's assigned to policy. Everything looks correct.
When we create Recovery Plan for this Protection Group, it shows no VM's listed. No actions available. Permissions look fine.
We are using SRM 6.1, SRA 2.2.0.3. Recoverpoint 4.1 SP2. vSphere 6.0.

is create is run chmod but if reboot the ESXi host the folder and file is deleted on reboot.!!??
why and what is the solution for have folder persiste on /

I have a workflow that includes the pre-built Orchestrator NSX workflow "Create edge". My workflow creates a a port group and then adds the new ESG to the portgroup.
The issue is that the workflow completes and says it completes successfully, and VCenter shows the workflow as completed however no Edge created. The portgroup is created.
VCenter doesn't even show a process starting to create an Edge.
So my question: Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong to allow the workflow to think it is getting the correct parameters, completing successfully and yet doing nothing in VCenter?
I am attaching my workflows. it begins with the provision workflow and then uses the others. The original Create edge workflow has been duplicated as Create edge ESG for editing and debugging reasons, however no code has been altered in the version attached.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have windows based VCenter server with Embedded PSC I want to know if I point out to external PSC, what would be happen with embedded PSC's services
Would it continue run or embedded PSC will do replication with external PSC.
I tried and got this error.

I am having a problem with VMware backups failing because of orphaned snapshots. Everything I have read says to remove the hotadd option from the VMware transport level on the storage. Where do I set the transport level?
We cannot ping 5 VMHosts which State is connected, powered on. (VMHosts are up and running hosting vms)
These VMHosts can be connected to via Vsphere client and putty without any issue.
Is it a configuration Parameter on the VMHosts which prevent a ping response
Where / What setting should i be looking for?
These 5 VMHosts are VMware esxi 5.5
The rest of VMHosts in our environment we can ping and they respond
I can clone (=copy) Windows VMs from desktop to laptop, no problem. Just starting Linux (Ubuntu and LinuxMint), clones on another machine function OK except for the network shares.
I have searched for solutions that often refer to editing/deleting /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules, but I cannot find this file.
I have looked at Maintaining and Changing the MAC Address of a Virtual Machine and manually set the MAC as a static address on the clone to be the same as the original generated MAC. This does not work either. Using Windiff, the only differences between the original and cloned vmx are:

I am new to VMware and I am working on a project where team mates deployed manually using vSphere, I am weary of the human factor and I want to compare the configuration via a diff like tool in a 3rd machine, I need to easily download all config (Via API) or simply generating a text file I can compare.

I have a number of Windows XP and Windows 7 virtual machines installed on my Win10 host that have worked fine for months.
Today I had two Win 7 machines started and started a Win XP one, the performance on the XP VM was extremely slow or stalled for minutes at a time. The Win 7 machines were still running OK.
I tried closing all other VM's and XP was still slow, tried a XP and host reboot and XP still slow (10 mins to restart XP).
I have also tried another two WinXP VM's and they are also slow.
I moved one of the XP VM's to another host and it goes fine.
XP task manager shows 100% cpu usage with ~95% kernel times. Host machine is around 20% usage and still responds OK.
Any suggestions?
VMware is also saying the vmware tools are out of date and no 3D graphics will be avail.
Not sure if related but this morning I also couldn't log in to my host Win10 profile until I tried a windows update (no updates) and then restarted (as suggested on forums).
I might try a different user profile when this XP finishes updating vmware tools (40 mins into it so far, zzzz)
Update: Feb 13
Tried on a different profile and same, reinstalled VMware and still the same (XP VM slow, Win7 VM fine).
Looks like the main slow point is disk access, with nothing running I can bring up the start menu pretty quick. Updating the tools took around 1.5 hours.
Tried running an xp vm that a colleague had made with workstation and it was set to use 8 cores and it near froze the host.
I am facing as issue to configure Fault Tolerance (FT) in VCSA 6. I am getting this error "Configuring primary VM for fault tolerance:updating VM configuration fault tolerance"
I done all the steps to enable the FT: I am enabling FT on Management NIC because I have only 1 NIC.
1: HA is enable at Cluster Level
2: Enable VMOTION on VMKernal Adapter
2: Enable FT Logging on VMKernal Adapter
I didn't find any proper solution for this issue.
