I recently moved my 5.5 VCenter from a 2003 Box to a 2012 Box.
I did a complete clean install on this new VCenter in my cluster.
Everything has gone well, except that I am running Distributed Switch.
When I upgraded to VCenter 6, I moved my SQL to an external SQL Server and I created a Platform Services Controller.
Does anyone know how I can migrate that VCenter Server to the Distributed Switch?

I've done some research but apparently still don't understand how to fix this. If Use Full Resolution of Retina Display is set, each time I swipe back to the Windows screen the resolution is reset to max. If Use Full Resolution of Retina Display is not set, each time I swipe back to the Windows screen the 1280x800 resolution is set. I want 1920x1200 and it only keeps that resolution (in either case) until I switch back to a MAC window. I have VMware Tools installed. Except for this issue, I'm very happy with how the VM is functioning.
I posted this originally in a different thread and decided to create a new one for it since it was only tangentially related to where I posted before. I'm using the vRA appliance, and as near as I can tell the default keystore doesn't include any generally accepted root CA certificates. I'm using Google apps as our outbound email server, and since the root cert they used isn't in the keystore I'm forced to allow self-signed certificates. This is a lab server so I'm only a little bothered by that, but let's say I want to send an email via an Orchestrator flow--the ootb send notification flow doesn't provide any option for trusting all roots and just refuses to do anything at all. I crossed my fingers and did vcac-config import-certificate, but there was no noticeable effect after restarting. I even tried importing cacerts from my workstation's Java install, but I haven't been able to guess the keystore password. The system admin and hardening guides only talk about replacing certificates for the various vRA components, and I'm frankly at a loss for what to try next. The integrated vRO installation also maintains a keystore (which also lacks any root certs), but the config tool for Orchestrator at least allows you to import certs, even if only one at a time. Is there a similar tool for vRA itself, or is the default keystore password in some KB article I haven't been able to locate yet?

I have a bunch of workflows that schedule tasks for certain times (not recurring on a regular schedule, so manual initiation).
Each time a task is schedule, an entry goes into "Scheduler" tab in VCO. Once the task has been run, you get your nice green check mark.
Is there any way to bulk delete the past tasks (there are about 700+) that have run or have them clear out after X days automatically?

ESXi are used for VDI deployment. On Desktops there is installed a software for emulating windows phone 8. It uses hyper-v technology, so the template was prepared to use nested virtualization. Everything worked fine till esxi were updated from ESXi 5.5 Patch 5 re-release (2718055) to ESXi 5.5 Update 3a (3116895). After thet update SLAT stopped to work.
If anyone uses such a technology dont upgrade. I cannot upgrade esxi to ESXi6 becouse this blades are not supported with version 6. I dont know if this problem esxist on version6.

Hello all,
I'm using a Windows 10 box with Horizon View Client 5.4.1. Our logins are smart card enabled. When I launch Horizon View, I enter the connection server and hit connect. I'm prompted to choose a certificate; I pick the correct one, enter my PIN, and then get an error message saying "The View Connection server connection failed." And that's the entire message. When I choose the wrong certificate, I get "The View Connection server connection failed. No user could be found for your certificate." Which tells me it's reaching the server, but without any more info I can't find the problem.
I've logged into Horizon View with other machines and I can use my smart card with other sites on this computer. Are there ports I should open for Horizon View? What else can I try?

Trying to get vmware 12.0.1 installed and keep getting the same error ('VMware Authorization Service' (VMAuthdService) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.)

deleting the %TEMP% & rebooting as suggested in the kb
created and new administrative user and installing under that account
turnoff firewalls & removed virus scanner.

Well after using VirtualBox, for quite a long time, i decided to use VMware for 2 reasons. First a USB-HD drive keeps on crashing in VirtualBox and second to get to know VMware a little better after 9 years the last time i used it.
Still as a student i am trying to get as much knowledge as i can about virtualmachines software as specially VMware.
Here is the situation.
Server:

Situation:
The Vmware Workstation on the server is running Headless on the Linux Ubuntu server. Using connect to Server on Vmware Workstation on the client i get access to the Vmware Workstation on the server. I have installed Microsoft Windows server 2012R2 to experiment with Windows Deployment Services i am trying to mount 1 USB-HD 2.5 inch 700 GB WDS/PXE HD for the captured images. This one as you can see with the server setup, is installed on the server. This HD is installed on 2x USB 3.0 ports, using a "ASMT 2105" (SATA-->USB 3.0 converter). However, i am busy getting this to work, but i simply cannot mount this on my remote server. I get to see the USB-drives etc on my Client, but not what is connected to my remote server.
Can anyone guide me through the steps or simply pointing me to the right direction to look.

We are a church so our finances are meager. However, we do believe in virtualization for our church network. We have a couple of VCP4 church members who are helping us with our virtualization project.
Currently, we are using ESXi5 hypervisor with 2 Dell PowerEdge Servers hosting our 6 VMs. However, we are hoping to create more later. While this is small, we believe that having the Essential PLus kit would certainly aid in the administration and management of our Vmware environment. Our primary concern is that our technical help is voluntary so we need to reliably keep our Hosts and VMs up and running. In the hypervisor environment that is not so easy. With vMotion and HA/DRS it would be a great benefit.
The problem is costs.
I have seen postings with HP and Lenovo branding selling vSphere Essentials Plus kit version 5 for as little as $900 to $1300. Our servers are all Dell PowerEdge and have VT technology. We have the necessary Quad Core Processors with 8GB of memory (and, with luck we will be able to boost it to 16GB). So, the question is: Are these postings (and, one is on Amazon) legitimate and can we use these HP and Lenovo branded Essentials Plus kits on our Dell Hosts?
Hey guys I am on vCenter 6.0 Update 1. Problem is every time I attempt to make a new DVS port group in my vCenter, the service hard crashes.
The message it throws right before the service dies is:
A general system error occurred: Error[VdbODBCError] (-1) "ODBC error: (23505) - ERROR: duplicate key value violates unique constraint "pk_vpx_dvport_membership
Any ideas? I really need to add a port group.
As you can see from the command output below, my esxi server detects two usb disks. The western digital is usb2 and the verbatim a usb3.

I dont see how we can put a host into maintenance mode, after it has been evacuated of vm's with the exception of replicas without breaking vm's on other hosts that rely on the replicas.
Will the pool create another replica and link the currently running vm's to that new replica? Is this documented?

I really wasn't sure where to post this, hopefully it's ok here - if not please feel free to move.
I'm converting w2k3/w2k8/w2k12 servers to a different VLAN, which requires an IP change on all 3 network cards we have per server. To speed up and bring some standardization and eliminate human error I have a script which renames network cards, add new IP details - this all works great and isn't really the main reason i'm here.
As I mentioned we use 3 network cards, during the conversion process i select "none" for network, meaning once its on the other side we add new network cards, but only after running devcon to remove the previous cards - Which I do to ensure that when the new network cards are added start at "local area connection, local area network connection 2 and local area network connection 3" or for w2k12 "Ethernet, Ethernet 2 and Ethernet 3" within the OS - The script will look for each of these connections, rename and assign the correct IP based on this,
The problem i have and i want to see how others deal with this (or have recommendations), is as follows.
After doing the above we go to "VM > edit settings" and add 3 network cards, please note that the Network Labels that must be in a particular order here and this is where i have problems - If i add all 3 network cards in one go windows seems to randomly assign with becomes the lowest label - i.e. the first card I add in "VM > Edit settings" may not be the first network connection within the OS - The work around is obviously add one network card, assign network label and apply, go back in add second etc etc - but this isn't ideal.
Anyone have any suggestions on how i can ensure the first network card/label added in "VM > Edit Settings" is the lowest network label within the OS?
for clarity, i am asking this because the script i have requires the lowest network connection to be the one assigned in "VM > Edit Settings" to ensure the NIC is renamed correcty, and the correct IP details are applied with netsh commands.

So our Virtual server crashed. The guy that set it up has left the country. I'm an IT guy but pretty thin on VMware, but I can tell you we have Vsphere 4.1 and I'm able to get into the console. Several other servers are all up and running fine. This one just won't do anything. Everything is greyed out since I tried to delete an old Snapshot. Sitting at the glorious 99% For about an hour now. Sure it could take forever. But worse, they're could be more problems when and if it does finish! And people will be arriving for work in about 3 hours. Somebody, anybody please help! Very appreciative and greatful for any help or direction anyone can give me. Thanks in advance.
Also, found an error in the log that says "Cannot power on Fileserver blahblah01. A general system error occurred. No related events. :-/

I got the email from VMware that my listed below VMware certifications are expiring on 27th Sept 2015.
Questions:-
1. Do i need to upgrade all of these exams, if Yes, what is the path?
2. Is there any free / discount benefit available to upgrade these Exams
3. Is there any Track available as - VMware certified Professional 6 - Data center Virtualization?
I would like to go with VCP6-Cloud approach, any way i can upgrade above exams and at same time get the new certification in place i.e. VCP 6-Cloud.
