I posted this in another forum but decided to post it here hoping that I will get more help. I will copying myself:

I'm running Vmware pro and VirtualBox in my main machine at home. I'm building a small pentesting lab plus some other cool stuff you do with VMs and I came across few questions. Supposedly if you run a VM inside Vmware or VirtualBox with the setting of the network adapter set to bridge mode, then it will just be like a new physical machine connected to your router and it will get an ip address from the DHCP server running on the router. And if this is the case, each machine should be able to ping the other machine no problems. This is my understanding and this is how it has always been. However, sometimes it just doesn't happen. One machine will ping the other but not vice versa. I found one culprit though. It is the windows firewall. It seems like it blocks pings by default ( is that right?) and you will either have to turn it off or add a rule to allow ping requests. How come windows firewall blocks pings? I found that to be weird ! How is someone supposed to troubleshoot connectivity issues between dozens of machines? By the way, this is not always the case. Sometimes even if you turn off the firewall it wont still ping. I found that sometimes you need to mess with the virtual network editor settings in Vmware to fix issues. I also find this to be weird because default options in Vmware and Virtualbox should allow pinging both ways. One more thing, if windows firewall blocks pings by default, then why my main machine (the actual host) is pingable from all machines (either physical or VM) even though the firewall is turned on? I don't remember adding a rule to allow incoming ping requests!

Did you guys face similar issues? What's your comments?

HI! i am having problems  with disconnections with sesion every 1 hour with 2019 server. y have read a kb (79535) that explain the cause of the failure but i can not find the solution.

any ideas?

I am getting an error when trying to use Visual Studio 2019 community version on our VM/appstacks.

I am able to run VS2019 on our physical machines without having this issue.  This is after a fresh install.

Windows 10 x64 1909

View agent 7.12 & vcenter 7

Appvol agent 2.18.4

I did use the VMware OSOT which disabled NCSI.  I re-enabled that and set the reg keys in HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator back to 0.  I thought maybe the issue with Windows thinking it had no internet access was the issue but even with the taskbar icon showing Connect & Internet Access now I still get the same error when trying to update the visual studio license.

I can sign in fine and it recognizes my account, but trying to "update license" always results in the same error "We could download a license, check internet connection and proxy settings"

Has anyone else had this or similar issue?  Is there some other network setting I may need to re-enabled that was turned off using the OSOT?

I have not tried to install it on a fresh plain base image yet but that will be next on the list for tomorrow.

flash memory VMware ESXi 5.x server running in the Mother-board on IBM x-series servers.

Haven looked up some documents, I noticed that there are recovery CDs up to ESXi 4.1,
but no information on how or what tools to use for the recovery of versions above
4.1.

Please point me to documents describing the procedure.

Apologies for the newb question .

We are on 2.18 atm.

We are moving from LTSB/C to Enterprise - thus we are recreating every Layer / appstack in 4.1 .

In order to consolidate and limit # of attached drives we have AppStacks that combine multiple programs into one Layer .

For example .

an "Everyone" appstack... this has 4 apps.. Chrome - PDF xchange - financial app etc. 

EVeryone in the Co gets this .. hence the name .

Now to bring that to 4.x .

My question is :

Can i not HAve One Application called EVeryone .. and assign Different Multiple PAckages to said Application ?

Using 'Current' doesnt work..as it appears to me i can only have one Current PAckage in an Application ( which MAKES SENSE of course ) .

I tried 'Assignment Type 'Package'... that Assigns our AD group for this to just ONE package . 

I want one Application to dish out 4 Different PAckages .. ( e.g. Chrome / PDF software ..etc. ) .

Is there no way to do that ?

Also the question is would anyone WANT to do that ?...

In 2.18 we created one Appstack and installed 4 items in that one app stack .

Appears in 4.x we might have to create One Application.. One Package.. and install all 4 apps in said package ?

I presume EAch Package appears to be a separate VMDK..

Thus could one say you could never Have Two Packages in an Application assigned at the same time ?

I upgraded to 4.1 from 2.18. I do not see anything under inventory for the writeable volumes. I did update the template option. The desktops are running the 4.1 agent and people are seeing there writeable volumes. Just curious as to why nothing is showing up in the console. I don't see anything in the log files either.

Is there any way to manage the App volumes using powershell .

Enabling "Accelerated 3D Graphics" in Fusion will render Citrix Viewer inside a Windows VM completely unusable. This is a long standing issue: Fusion and Citrix performance terrible (as in not even able to reboot VM)

Disabling "Accelerate 3D Graphics" has obviously some CPU side effects, which not everyone can live with.

I am not clear on whether it's a Citrix or a VMware issue to be honest.

My host crashed over the weekend and now when I try to start my VM I get the error in the title for each of the VM disks and then it ends with a message that the VM failed to start. I'm new to this world so I'm not sure where to begin looking. There are folders inside the VM folder with the name of each disk and then ending in .lck I'm thinking these might be locks. Do I just need to delete those folders?

Hi.  Thanks to LucD I am progressing with my script to get vCenter details but the one bit I am stuck on is with regard to the datastore disk usage particularly if a VM has more than one VMDK and they are on separate datastores.

At the moment, I am using the code below to get the datastore names:

What I would like to do is get the disk size for each VMDK.  For example if a VM has 2 x VMDKs on separate datastores, I would like the report to show:

I have the following scenario:

Site 1: NSX Edge with L2VPN Client
Site 2: Edge in vCloud Director dedicated to L2VPN Server (no internet access, only to extend VLAN)

Egress Optimization Gateway Address is not enabled on both sites.

At the time of lifting the L2VPN tunnel, the VLAN is extended without problems, however, some VMs in Site 1 begin to lose connectivity to the internet, and when checking the ARP table of the VM, the gateway IP address shows the MAC of the Edge of theL2VPN.

VMs at Site 2 communicate with VMs at Site 1 without problems.

Why might VMs at Site 1 recognize Site 2 Edge as a gateway?

It seems that if I apply critical updates via update manager, the hosts will end up at 6.7.0 EP16, build 16773714   which as far as I can tell takes us beyond the supported host level for view 7.11, which is esxi 6.7.0 U3

How do paople manage this? Surely we're not expected to upgrade the whole View environment every time there's a critical host patch that takes us beyond the suported level of View?

started migration using cross vcenter migration utility of VM from one vcenter to another vcenter both are in different subnets, the source vcenter is 6.5 and the destination vcenter is 6.7

the process started but after 247Sec through an error that "general failure, connection timed out"

there are enough resources avaialble to migrate the VM. but still all the times its fails .

Note the VM's vmdk is around 1TB in size .

i tried also ovftool but it gives an error as well. "vmodl.fault.ManagedObjectNotFound."

while working with ovftool , i removed the iso file from CD/DVD media and also the Network card.

i tried "Export to OVF Templete" but its hanged/stoped when it reaches 33% or 52% sometimes.

Maybe someone knows if there is some possibility to set custom or some third party keyboard as default from UEM console ? We have situation that some web pages allow user to copy/paste text only with using ctrl+c/ctrl+v and for some brands default keyboard are missing ctrl button, so that mean we need to somehow change keyboard. As we have wuit a lot of device with this issue it would be fine do it somehow automatically.

имеется ВЦентр, в котом создан Датацентр и соответственно кластер

к ВЦентру подключено несколько датасторов по FC (для ВМ разного назначения и уровня важности) разного уровня RAID и состава дисков (HDD/SSD)

датастор1 - служебное

датастор2 - продакшн ВМ

датастор3 - VMDK для СУБД (т.е. в ВМ с СУБД подключается отдельное хранилище для баз)

итак вопрос, как мне сделать так, что б при работе DRS не перемещались ВМ-ки между датасторами (грубо говоря - прибить гвоздями)? Как закрепить ВМ за хостами (групами хостов я нашел, через VM/Host Rules)

Intel Corporation s2600gz server. ESXI 5.5 itself runs on flashe disk. Next, the virtual machines lie on the Synology RS3412 NAS storage via a SCSI controller with RAID-5. Tell me where to dig and what could be the reason ? I would be very grateful.
