ThinApp SAP-Logon launches other ThinApp for printing with dedicated Filetype

Hello ThinApp - Community,

we are new in the bussiness of thinapp.

We have build a ThinApp (Version 5.2.8) with SAP Logon and SNC (SecureNetwork-Client for encryption and SSO).

Now we would like to call another ThinApp (Escriba) which generates forms with the data storred into a local file from the SAP.

SAP downloads the file escriba.ewj, which sould be opened by escriba-composer.exe which is capsules in the ThinApp HR Escriba-Composer.

The files of the ThinApp EscribaComposer are in C:\Program Files (x86)\ThinApp\HR Escriba_Composer

          - escriba-composer.exe

          - escriba-composer_manager.exe

          - HR EscribaComposer.dat

          - HR EscribaComposer.dat.alt

          - javacpl

Our setting in packet.ini of the SAP-ThinApp is:

1) OptionalAppLinks=escriba-composer_manager.exe

2) [escriba-composer_manager.exe]

    Source=%ProgramFilesDir%\ThinApp\HR Escriba_Composer\escriba-composer_manager.exe

    Shortcut=HR EscribaComposer.dat

    CommandLine="%ProgramFilesDir%\ThinApp\HR Escriba_Composer\escriba-composer_manager.exe"

    FileTypes=.ewj

The Parameter FileTypes is not mentioned in the documentation perhaps you have some experiance.

On the Build the following Error occures.

Target [escriba-composer_manager.exe] has 'Shortcut=HR EscribaComposer.dat' entry, however Target HR EscribaComposer.dat does not exist or is not data container because it does not have a ReadOnlyData= setting

default Printer changing

Hi All,

we are again facing issues with printers within our VDI environment.  As some of you might already know the default printer issue has been discussed several times. During the "thinprint" days several workarounds were posted to get around the issue by implementing GPO logon scripts or UEM settings in order to keep the users default printer.

We have switched to Vmware integrated printing and printers started changing again. The old fixes do not work.

According to the KB -> VMware Knowledge Base the integrated printing feature forces the local printer to become default. That is why we had to implement the workaround and it is working for most users. Unfortunately the Printers still keep changing for some of them.

Any idea how to fix this? We are not using UEM yet.

Environment = Horizon 7.12, Windows 10 1809, Roaming Profiles.

Thanks

Mat

This host does not support Intel VT -x (redux)

I've seen this problem discussed here and elsewhere, but none of the solutions posed have solved it for me.

I went away for a month. Before I left VMWare VMs were starting and running just fine. I came back the other day, and today for the first time tried to start my VMWare WKS 15.5.6 build 16341506 on Windows 10 version 20H2.

When I try to start a VM it displays the "This host does not support Intel VT -x " etc dialogue.

Checked the BIOS, verified that Intel VT -x is indeed enabled (its an old Lenovo workstation, a D20).

Made sure that Hyper V and other Windows virtualization utilities were not enabled.

Uninstalled Windows Subsystem for Linux entirely.

There have been no silent Windows updates except for a Security Update for Microsoft Office 2020 64 bit that was silent and was applied today.

Still no joy, whenever I try to start a VM I get that "host does not support Intel VT -x" dialogue.

Anybody have ideas on where else to look? its possible that there was an anti-virus update (I use eSet) I wonder if that could have done it? I've "paused protection" and nothing changed with VMWare.

The other thing that has changed from a month ago is that I am on a wireless network whereas I used to be on a wired (different) network (i.e. I moved my office). Don't know why that would affect it, or generate that error. FWIW, I've disabled all network adapters except for the two VMNet adapters that appear in the Virtual Netowrk Editor.

thanks,

Why is AirwatchService taking up 100% of CPU

Recently we've had several of our windows users reporting the task scheduler running a service called AirwatchService that is taking anywhere from 50-100% of the CPU and causing the windows laptop to become unusable because of the lack of resources. Has anyone experienced this? I'm not sure what would be causing such high usage or what the AirwatchService even does. I've reached out to support but thought I may reach more people here.

How do we get the patch installation date via powercli?

I found a script that outputs the compliance report to csv files (Export Compliance Reports )

the script worked great, but the report dont show when the patch was installed.  Is there a field that stores the install dates?  If yes, does somebody know what the field name is?

SUSE is not bootable once add SCSI Controller with type "Paravirtual"

Hi,

I am following a guide "http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/partners/oracle/vmware-oracle-rac-deploy-guide.pdf" to try

install Oracle 11g RAC on two separate SUSE 11 Linux, everything is fine when I have a standalone SUSE 11g

setup. Then I start to add new SCSI hard disks and a new SCSI Controller 1 is added automatically in this case.

Then I follow the guide to change the SCSI Controller Type to "Paravirtual", and then start the SUSE VM guest.

At this time, the linux guest is no longer bootable. I attach a screen capture on the suse output here.

In the troubleshooting, I put the install CD disc and try install it again, I found that in the hard disk partitioner,

the original /dev/sda is changed to /dev/sdg   (I added five new SCSI hard disks for RAC afterward)

I think it is the main root cause why the SUSE linux suddenly failed to boot.

Finally, I change the new SCSI Controller type back to "LSI Logic Parallel", then the SUSE can boot up successfully.

The ESXi host version is VMWare ESXi 4.1

Does any expert encounter similar situation before?

Please kindly share your experience with me if you know how to fix this situation.

Thanks,

Ray

Source IP visible from container in vSphere with kubernetes ?

Hi,

playing with a demo I see that service type LoadBalancer does SNAT, so the original source IP is not visible at the app code.

Is there any way to disable that ? (i.e. to have source IP visibility)

This is in a native cluster, BTW.

TIA,

vRA 8 - Object input type question

I see that you can create a blueprint input that is of type object.  I can't seem to find any documentation on it and how/why I would use it.  Wondering if anyone has links (or examples) of what this is for?

Thanks,

Manipulating Guest CPUID

$

Hi there,

I wish all a happy new year!

Did anybody ever tried to manipulate the CPUID, which is shown to the guest OS?

I have the following scenario:

CPUID shown in the guest OS: 0FABFBFF00020651

vmx-File Parameters:

guestCPUID.0 = "0000000b756e65476c65746e49656e69"
guestCPUID.1 = "0002065100010800829822030fabfbff"

As you can see I find the ID shown above splitted in two parts inside of the value of guestCPUID.1 (marked in bold).

I need to change this ID to 0FEBFBFF000006F1
If I manipulate the guestCPUID.1 value according to the ID I need I get the following result: After PowerOn the VM again the value gets instantly overwritten by the original value.

I assume that the other part of the value and maybe also guestCPUID.0 are also related in some way.

Unfortunally I can´t find anything in the documation / google about this paramaters.

Thanks for any help!

Cheers,

Mario

Creating 2nd server with same IP address as the first.

$

I've mostly been a hardware person up to this point so I'm pretty new to VMware (and a crash course in networking as well). Just created my VM account and this is my first question.

We are doing an application upgrade soon and my end is to create 5 new machines to replace the 5 old servers currently in production. I have the machines set-up and waiting on the vendor specific OS to power on the machines (Ubuntu if it matters), then assign them the same IP addresses as the original server. Once the vendor has finished setting up the new operating systems and respective applications the old ones will be turned off with no interruption of traffic.

What I am trying to understand how to do is assign the new machines the same IP addresses as the old ones and not have issues. I've read this can be done with network segregation, but I don't know how to accomplish this with vSphere, or how to frame the question properly to get the answer I'm looking for.

Thank you in advance for any instructions and guidance I receive.

Need appropriate TLS reconfigurator version for VCSA 6.5 U3l

$

We are using VCSA 6.5 build number: 16764584

Per  https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2143838 : build number 16764584 is vCenter Server 6.5u3l  (lower case L)

Per https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2147469  - the appropriate rpm for this is VMware-vSphereTlsReconfigurator-6.5.0-5597882.x86_64.rpm

Unfortunately we cannot find this rpm on the vmware download site.  The closest TLS reconfigurator rpm we have found to our VCSA version 6.5 U3l is the 6.5 U3k rpm below :

Name:VMware-vSphereTlsReconfigurator-6.5.0-16478865.x86_64.rpm
Release Date:2020-07-30
Build Number:16478865

Can someone assist?

Thank you,

Move from Windows 10 Build 1607 to Build 1909

$

Hi all,

Just looking for advice on migrating from Windows 10 Build 1607 to Build 1909.

Here is our setup...

-Horizon Standard 7.12

-FSLogix for user profiles (this recently replaced redirected folders)

-Defprof.exe to copy a customized user's profile to the default user profile

-Linked Clone Composer pool

-All applications are installed in the master image

-Windows Update are turned off

-When preparing Build 1607 we were nervous that an OSOT change could interfere with something like defprof.exe so we went through and evaluated each OSOT optimization and either put it in a prep batch script or in an Active Directory group policy. All AD GPO settings are jammed into one GPO for speed sake.

Our first time logins take 1:02 and subsequent logins take 16 seconds so we are happy with our results.

Should we just march forward using the same technologies/setup? It's been a few years since we've had to think about this so I'm open to suggestions :-)

Thanks,

Brian
