unable to invoke installation due to vcsa is not ready check if rpm installation is completed

Good day, one and all.

I'm trying to set up an ESXi small lab (2 x 8GB PC towers).  VCSA VM has been spun up, as well as a domain controller VM.  From the DC, I browse to https://vcsavm:5480 and go through the setup steps.  After a long time of it sitting on 'Waiting for RPM Installation to finish (% done.)', it eventually concludes with 'unable to invoke installation due to vcsa is not ready check if rpm installation is completed'.  ('% Done' never features an actual number, so I figure it doesn't even kick off.)

Yes, I know, even the smallest VCSA requirements state 10GB RAM.  However, having made it this far, I hoped that I had passed the 'hardcoded' minimum.  Also, looking at ESXi resources, both CPU and RAM are lightly used thus far.

Please advise if and how I may proceed with this lab setup.

Complete Ports List

I've always wondered why there hasn't been any specific documentation for Horizon that includes the additional port requirements for Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS)?

I remember my first View deployment. It was a deployment where I had to build a group-up, whitelist / deny all, permit--by-exception firewall policy, and that information would have been tremendously helpful. In that case, the Local firewall policies/allowances provided by the Connection Server installer were moot, because the Domain policies superseded the Local policies. For current deployments, I just modify my existing policies applied to the Connection Servers to include any new port requirements.

Converter V. 6.2.0, ESXi 6.0, Physical Ubuntu 14.04LTS, fails at 1% a general system error occured: failed to poweron vm

I start the conversion process, I'm able to see the system info, it gathers all of the disks, RAM and CPU info. I can communicate between the physical host and the destination ESXi host with SSH. After starting the process the VM gets created on the ESXi host, and almost immediately after, standalone converter appears to start the process and then stop, the VM gets deleted from the ESXi host and everything stops with the status failed at 1%.

I've tried different network settings, including using a Static IP address (I'm not using any DNS hostnames in this configuration, all straight IP addresses). The machines are on the same network, same subnet, same vlan, can ping, ssh and telnet between them.

I've converted similar machines previously, but on an older version of standalone converter.

Mouse cursor problems in horizon

Hi all,

we have installed horizon 7 at two sites with linked clones. Windows 7 32bit is installed.  At one site several users have a Problem with the mouse Cursor. sometimes the mouse cursor stays the loading circle, or the mouse with loading circle or any other mouse Cursor. Only a reboot of the VM helps. The users connect with a Zero Client from dell wyse Modell p20 using PCoIP. Firmware is 5.3.0, horizon is on Version 7.0.2

At the other site everything works fine. where should I start with searching for the error?

vsphere, nvidia and Premiere Pro

Hi,

I'm trying here at my home lab to achieve something: Run ESXI latest (6.5) with GTX 1070 (for example) which will be passed through to a Windows 10 VM, and connect remotely to that VM and edit some videos with Adobe Premiere Pro CC and use the CPU's (with the GPU) for faster rendering.

Since I still don't have the GPU (prices are way too high), I thought collecting some data and tips would help me to see if it's possible, so:

  1. Bypass nVidia's dreaded "Error 43" - can be fixed with adding hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = FALSE to the Windows 10 VMX file.
  2. Since there is no RemoteFX (and RemoteFX doesn't work with Premiere Pro) - which remote software to use in order to get stable and high frame rate and stable sound?
  3. Will CUDA work in this scenario? (for the Mercury Playback engine)

If someone could contribute some info (or links) - It will help a lot

Thanks

Run VMmark benchmark automatically

Hello,

In the VMmark 3.0 documentation under section "Running VMmark benchmark" I found a note that it's impossible to run the application without GUI.

From page 65:

"NOTE Whichever method you use to start STAX, a VMmark run can be started only from the prime client
GUI. Runs can’t be started if the prime client is in text only mode or from an SSH session.
"

So my question is: Is it really impossible to run it via ssh or trigger it using Invoke-VMScript from PowerCLI?

VMware-PowerCLI-6.5.0-4624819 returning partial results

We recently migrated from 5.5 to 6.5; I can access the Web and HTML5 clients and see all my 10 clusters, hosts, VMs etc.

I have however just tried to run a script and noticed that via PowerCLI I see only partial results. For example if I connect to the vCenter using Connect-VIServer and run Get-Cluster I only get one result (one cluster) instead of 10.

Is this normal? What am I missing?

New ESXi setup

I have ESXi host 6.0 running with two NICs.  I had to update the driver to bring those two NICs online.  My question is, how do I make these two new NIC's as NIC0 and NIC1? Since I have no plan using the other NICs.  Currently, these two NIC's are showing as NIC2 and NIC3.  How do I connect to ESXi mgmt since NIC0 has no NIC assigned?

thanks in advance.

Network Issues on new Host

I came onto a project which has two ESXi hosts, they are both on the same network. The one that is working is ESXi 5.5, the one not working (network wise) is running ESXi 6.0, unfortuantely I have about 0 network experience and I believe the issue is with the network setup. The host that is working is connected to the main switch on the LAN, which is trunked to another switch that the 6.0 host is connected too. I am using the NIC that is connected to a port assigned for VLAN 5, which the working host is on. When testing the network I can't ping or resolve the hostname. I am trying to use the main switch (The one that the host is not direct connected too) as the default gateway.

For instance

Host 1 (working host) VLAN 5 IP 192.168.5.4 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.5.1  DNS 192.168.5.200

Host 2 (Not working) VLAN 5 IP 192.168.5.5 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.5.1 DNS 192.168.5.200

The switch that host 2 is connected to also connects to other NIC's on Host 1 as a control switch.

Unless the port that I am using isn't actually on VLAN 5 I'm not sure why it isn't working. And thats about the extent of my networking knowledge.

Any help and good suggestions on learning VM networking would be apprecieated.

Query enabled services from ESXi command line

When I look at a host in VCenter, Selecting the Configure Tab, and selecting VMKernel adapters (Under Networking), and selecting a particular

VMKernel adapter I can for instance see:

Device      Network Label        Switch       IP Address ... (etc)

vmk2        VMkernel                vSwitch0   10.243.13.82

and under it I see: VMKernel network adapter: vmk2  (with Properties selected), I see the Port properties

Network label         VMKernal

VLAN ID                 None (0)

Enabled services   vSAN

---  However, I need to get the information from the command line ---

The closest I come with the esxcfg commands is issuing:

esxcfg-vmknic -l

Interface  Port Group/DVPort/Opaque Network        IP Family IP Address

vmk2       VMkernel                                IPv4           10.243.13.82

My question is what command line command do I need to enter, to see what Enabled services are on my VMKernel network adapter?

In this case, I know the answer is vSAN because I can see it from VCenter, but I need to get the information from the command line.

PowerCLI 6.5 problems

$

Hi all,

After much agonizing, I decided to do a PowerCLI upgrade to 6.5 with the fancy new install-module install

Modules install just fine, but connecting to the vCenter, however, does not work. It throws the following error:

PS C:\Program Files\PowerShell\6.0.1> Connect-VIServer vcenter

Connect-VIServer : The type initializer for 'VMware.VimAutomation.Sdk.Interop.V1.CoreServiceFactory' threw an exception.At line:1 char:1

+ Connect-VIServer vcenter

+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

+ CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [Connect-VIServer], TypeInitializationException

+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : System.TypeInitializationException,VMware.VimAutomation.ViCore.Cmdlets.Commands.ConnectVIServer

Now, I get the same error on bot a Windows 7 AND a windows 10 system. That leads me to blame the operator (i.e. me), but these error messages throw me and google isn't helping.

I am sure this is a simple fix?

Storage vMotion vRDM to vSAN

$

I'm trying to move 2 larger (6TB) "drives" to vSAN.

I have 6 hosts with local drives; and the correct ratio of ssd to hdd. I've migrated our old 5.5 environment to this new stack, and have 2 servers left. Both of them are now VMs on a single host (we're not running DRM or HA at the moment). I have iscsi connections to an openfiler datastore, and I present the 6TB drives to the windows vms via esxi. So, no in-guest iscsi connections.

I started a storage vmotion and our environment fell to its knees. We killed a (new) hdd and kept filling up cache ssd's to the point of having congestion errors...up to the 241 range. After days of pain (the vmotion was only up to 68% complete!), the task died, and we're back to the beginning.

I have an open ticket with vmware and they are working with me on this, but my tech isn't available right now so I thought I'd ask this next question here.

As I've been poking around and researching online, I notice that everyone says (to add a vRDM) to add the iscsi software adapter "to the host". I did that; but I only have an iscsi software adapter added on ONE of those hosts.

So the question is: since vsan is across *all* 6 hosts, do I need to add an iscsi software adapter to the other 5 hosts, and add the iscsi connections to those two 6TB drives on each host? Would that increase thruput, and relieve the congestion problems we have been seeing?

Dynamic fields not populating

$

We have several dynamic fields in vRA blueprints that have been imported into ServiceNow using the ITSM plugin. However, the fields themselves never seem to populate. The properties themselves transfer over in the ServiceNow catalog request, but the values of those properties aren't making it. I am looking for some assistance as in troubleshooting why these dynamic fields aren't populating as they should. We are running release 3 of the ITSM plugin which states that it supports dynamic fields.

The ServiceNow plugin seems to be making the calls into vRA to grab the values, it just seems nothing is ever making it back into ServiceNow.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Removing an orphaned NFS share

Hey guys,

I have a standalone ESXi 6.5.0 U1 (HPE image) that is connected to a FreeNAS NFS share. It was previously connected to a Synology box also thru NFS. They both sit on the same IP.

Now, I keep getting messages every few seconds from ESXi /var/log/vmkwarning.log :

2018-02-01T14:47:51.571Z cpu0:66062)WARNING: NFS: 221: Got error 13 from mount call

and FreeNAS:

Feb 1 18:48:51 freenas mountd[1891]: mount request denied from 192.168.1.200 for /volume1

Feb 1 18:49:21 freenas mountd[1891]: mount request from 192.168.1.200 for non existent path /volume1

From this, it looks like my ESXi is trying to connect to a NFS share on the old Synology box which is nonexistent. On my ESXi GUI I can't seem to find any mention of this orphaned share. I have tried to find it thru all the possible cli commands (esxcli storage nfs list, etc) but no entries there.

I have even tried to simulate the old Synology and remount that share however not much luck.

Any help other than changing my FreeNAS IP or reinstalling ESXi.

Thanks

Installation of VMWare Fusion Pro 8 (downgraded 10 license) on MacBookPro (13-inch mid 2010)

So I need to run VMWare on a MacBook Pro 13-inch mid 2010. VMWare Fusion Pro 10 doesn't support this hardware. VMWare sales support person instructed me to purchase 10, install, and then use downgraded license. Sounded simple enough. I purchased, download, and attempted to install. The installer is smart enough to know version 10 Pro is not supported on my hardware so it quits. Suggesions?

}

I also need an email report at the end of the script like :

I installed a new ESXi 6.5u1 on Friday 25.08 and until now the sdcbd service crashed three times.

I am using a LSI 9271-8i Raid Controller and installed the "lsiprovider cim 500.04.V0.66-0002" to manage my storage and raid through a vm.

When i suddenly cannot connect with the lsi management software anymore i have to restart the "sfcbd-watchdog" service and then sensors are ok and i can connect again.

Any ideas?

Audio device thunderbolt connected to VMWARE Fusion 13

Hi everyone!

I am a developper and musician running an OSX Macbook pro with a Win 10 VM at my studio.

I have an external audio card (Apollo Twin) using Thunderbolt 2. I would like to access it inside the Win 10 VM (like when I plug an USB piano and I can redirect it to the Win 10 VM).

Note: I don't want to specifically use it as the "main audio device" but I want to access it and configure it inside my music software (which is Fruity Loops 12)

Any help gratefully received!
