Passing browser data to DataProviderAdapter

I am trying to use browser local storage for some Plugin settings.

Is it possible to pass these settings to the DataProviderAdapter through a cookie or some other method?

I was able to get cookies working in the DataAccessController using the @CookieValue annotation but unsure if its possible to do the same with the DataProvider itself.

Terrible VMWare Workstation 12 performance

Hello,

I'm currently evaluating VMware Workstation Pro 12.5.7 build-5813279 to determine if I will buy a license.

The software runs on a laptop with the following specifications:

CPU: Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1505M v6 @ 3GHz (Turbo mode is 4GHz).

RAM: 32 GB @ 2400 MHz

SSD: 1TB Class 50 (a Toshiba XG3 M.2 NVMe)

Video: NVidia Quadro M1200

The host runs Kubuntu 17.04 (There is a bug in 17.10 that prevents WKS 12 from running).

The guest is, currently, a vm with Windows 10 Pro, with 24 GB of RAM allocated, and all CPU cores.

Now, to me, the hardware specifications look of very high performance, premium even.

The performance of the vm with Win 10 is, however, horrific.

The guest hangs often, the mouse behaves erraticaly, jumping on screen, the CPU goes to 100% for several seconds.

Are there some settings that must be configured in order to actually make the vm work?

I don't understand how can Workstation Pro be used on a laptop...

Missing my local datastores and configuration after updating patch ESXi600-201703001.zip to ESXi Host which is not attached to vSphere Cluster

Hello everyone

Manufacture : HP

Model:  ProLiant DL380 Gen9

I have updated my ESXi host which is a standalone Host and stateless Host which has 6 Vm's running on it and attached to the Datastores with patch bundle ESXi600-201703001.zip . I've attached this file on to one of my Datastores. It has 8 datastores  and all storage is Internal disk.

I've updated the patch using esxcli Software vib update command by placing the Host on Maintenance mode shutting down all the VM's. Then I rebooted the Host it shows the patch was successful but all my storage was gone.

Following the reboot the 6 VMs are visible but appear as /vmfs/volumes/<longname>.vmx

If we click on these VMs, an error is generated in the vsphere client "An internal error occurred in the vsphere client, objdct reference not set to an instance of an object".

I don't have backup to rollback or revert the patch.

Any help is appreciated as the Host is Unusable ad cannot access the VM's. Can't figure out how to go ahead As I can't see the datastores.

Getting our distro added to the Version dropdown during VM creation

We are interested in getting Kali Linux added to the list in the Version selection when creating a VM.

Does anyone know the process for doing so?

The Small Footprint CIM Broker Daemon (SFCBD) is running, but no data has been reported. You may need to install a CIM provider for your storage adapter.

I'm just connecting to the web GUI for the host, I don't have vCenter server.

When I go into the Host - Monitor - Hardware - Storage, I get the message "The Small Footprint CIM Broker Daemon (SFCBD) is running, but no data has been reported. You may need to install a CIM provider for your storage adapter." Below I see "No data available".

Hardware is a Dell PowerEdge R630 with Perc H730 Mini and a Raid 10 configuration with 8x 2.5" disks.

I am running “Dell Customized Image ESXi 6.5 Update 1 A05 (based on ESXi VMKernel Release Build 6765664)” which contains driver “Dell PERC Controller Drivers - lsi-mr3 - 7.700.50.00”

sfcbd-watchdog service ist running and System Sensors are working and viewable.

Dell VMWare OMSA is installed.

The system is working without any problems and I have Rebooted the host several times.

I would appreciate for any help/advice on how I can get my storage monitoring data visible?

Cannot start VM: "Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to"

Hi folks,

I´m running the Fusion Preview on macOS High Sierra Beta3 (17A315i).

Every time when I try to start a VM I get the following error:

Bildschirmfoto 2017-08-06 um 08.23.42.png

2017-08-06T08:01:22.391+01:00| VMware Fusion| I125: SOCKET connect failed, error 2: No such file or directory

Fresh install of Fusion did not work.

I´ve also tried to create a fresh, blank VM but I get the same error. I cannot start anything.

Does anyone see the same behavior?

Thanks and BR/JO!

Dedicated Instant Clone pool question

Hi,

We're currently on View 7.2 and are looking to upgrade to 7.3.3 in the near future. There's been interest in getting to this version sooner since it'll support dedicated instant clone pools. I'm trying to understand if utilizing a dedicated Instant Clone pool will utilize any more or any less resources than a floating pool. Per the link below, it says that when a user logs off, a resync operation on the master image retains the VM name.... etc. Where as in the floating pool, it specifies that it's deleted and a new one is created. If someone has any experience with this and could answer a couple general questions it'll be a huge help, since I'm a bit unclear on the explanation below.

1. What happens to the machine after the user logs off? Does the machine get deleted and recreated from the master, but it's still assigned to that user?

     - If the machines don't get deleted, will it retain all of the data specific to the user? Just like a persistent machine?

2. Will these machines always be powered on, or only powered on when that user logs in?

Instant-Clone Desktop Pools

  • For dedicated instant-clone desktop pools, users are assigned a particular remote desktop and return to the same desktop at each login. When a user logs out, a resync operation on the master image retains the VM name and the Mac IP address of the VM after logoff.
  • For floating instant-clone desktop pools, users are assigned random desktops from the pool. When a user logs out, the desktop VM is deleted. New clones are created according to the provisioning policy, which can be on-demand or up-front

Thanks very much,

Mike

Conditional visibliity in ASD

I want to make a field visible only if the user is a member of the BG Managers.  Anyone know how to do that?  I am not trying to control what is on the drop-down list.  I am trying to control if the field is displayed on the user form at all.

I looked at the constraints->visible setting and see that I could call a vRO workflow (to answer the above question) but can not find out what it should return. Boolean???  I couldn't see any way to set it directly in vRA using the visible constraints nor field setting.

Workstation Player - Can't Map Network Drive

$

I am new to VM's.  Need a VM to run legacy Windows 16-bit and 32-bit software on a machine that also now requires Windows 64-bit O/S because of an important piece of new software that I need.  I have a new machine with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.  I installed Workstation Player 14 with the intention of upgrading to Workstation Pro if this test works.  (Hyper-V worked, but kept crashing.)  I successfully created a Windows 10 Pro 32-bit VM.  Everything seemed to work in the Windows environment EXCEPT that I need to map a network drive within the VM environment.  The VM won't map the drive.  (I know everything is physically connected and works because I can map the drive on the 64-bit machine.)  It must be able to map a drive or I have to look elsewhere for a solution.  It won't work using Windows Explorer (right-clicking on ThisPC) and it won't work from a command prompt ( NET USE N: \\PITS4SERVER\D ).  Both methods work on the 64-bit machine but neither works on the 32-bit VM.  I was an article about editing the VM's registry but that didn't work.  I saw another article about uninstalling VMware's Client Tools and using an older version of the Tools, but that didn't work either.  Please help.

Saving Manually Created Printers

I have the need to capture Manually Added Printers via UEM.

It is not saving the printer under HKCU\Printers...

but I see then under:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Devices

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PrinterPorts

Is it possible to saved these User Created printers with UEM?  They are Printers going to TCP ports if it makes a difference.

I'm using the build in Printers (mapped) template. Regular run from Logon/Logoff.

Was wondering if I was missing something...

Practice test and quick notes

I'm a few days away from taking my 3V0-622 test.  I've done some extensive studying and consolidated a lot of my notes down to the list of "quick notes" below and into the attached practice test file.  The practice test was just thrown together quickly in Excel so it isn't perfect.  Column A has invisible random numbers so sorting by that column will reorder the questions.  Column B has the questions and Column C also has invisible text in it which is the answer.  To view the answer just place your cursor in the cell you want to view and you'll see the text in the bar at the top.  I reviewed all this info a couple of times so I think it is all correct but it is entirely possible that I've got some wrong answers.  If anyone finds any let me know.  Hopefully this helps others

Permission destruction?

When I performed an upgrade from 8.5.6 to 8.5.7, I was asked for my password. Upon providing this, the system began to exhibit odd crashes and errors several minutes later. I found that chmod was running and changed all of my entire file system permissions to root:wheel. I was able to reset these through much work, but it appears that VMWare Fusion is having some very serious problems with this upgrade.

upgrading from Esxi 4.0

So, attempting to do an upgrade from Esxi 4.0.  Yes it is about time.

What might be a rational path?   In place upgrades, or install 6.5 clean and import/convert the VM's in one swell foop?

Also,I notice there is no "fat" client available, apparently, but I also see references to "Vsphere Web Client" and "Vsphere Client", both of which appear to be browser based.  I admit to confusion, consternation and etc.

Also, too, if I install 6.5, rather than upgrade in place, I was thinking to install on a fresh disk, in the current box, make that the boot device and go from there.  After doing exports/backups of the existing stuff and maybe cloning the current boot device.   Good thinking, or bad stinking?

Unable to compact VMs... Help!

$

Hi all,

I currently run a Linux (Ubuntu) host, with multiple VMs running on Workstation 12.5.7.  As a precautionary measure, I also keep "staging" versions of my Windows VMs, to make sure installs are viable (work OK) before trying on the main VM (which I keep as clean as possible).  For each staging machine, I made a snapshot of a clean install so that if (when) it became too messed up from installing/uninstalling stuff I could restore it to a clean state.  This last weekend, after having installed several gigs of stuff, I restored it to the snapshot.  I was thinking that I would get the space back that was used by the installed programs... I was wrong.  All attempts at compacting the VM after the restore tell me that the compact was successful, but the disk never shrinks back to it's original size (on the host HD, I mean).  What am I missing?  Thanks!
