Install ESXi 6.5 on R730 with Intel X710

Hello All,

 

After install ESXi 6.0 via "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.0.0.update02-4192238.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A04" on Dell PowerEdge R730, everything is okay !!!

 

But, if I try to install ESXi 6.5 via "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.5.0-4564106.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A00" on Dell PowerEdge R730, my vmnic0 and vmnic1 (Intel X710 DP 10Gb DA/SFP+) are not working !!!

 

Does anybody know the solution ?

ESXi 6.5U1 - INFO (ne1000): false RX hang detected on vmnic0

Hello,

 

I'm currently using ESXi 6.5.0 U1 on 5th gen Intel NUC 5i5RYH. My problem is that in vmkernel.log, I can periodically see following error messages:

I assume that it has something to do with the native NIC driver, ne1000. Since I haven't noticed any performance degradation while those errors appears, I don't know if they are safe to ignore. I would like to have some more information about what does those errors means (unfortunately, I haven't found anything relevant)? My NIC, I218-V is on HCL list for version 6.5.0 U1. I know that e1000e driver supports my NIC as well, although shouldn't ne1000 perform better?

 

I have also found relevant changelog information for my network adapter in here [VMware ESXi 6.5 Update 1 Release Notes ]:

 

Supported Hardware Issues

  • Intel I218 NIC resets frequently in a heavy traffic scenario When TSO capability is enabled in NE1000 driver, I218 NIC reset frequently in heavy traffic scenario, because of I218 h/w issue. The NE1000 TSO capability for I218 NIC should be disabled. This issue is resolved in this release.

 

Although, when I look in ESXi Host Web Client -> Manage -> Advanced Settings, TSO related settings are following (enabled):

 

Net.UseHwTSO

When non-zero, use pNIC HW TSO offload if available

AcquireCloneTicket() for remote server

I have been trying to find a way to Acquirecloneticket() on behalf of a remote server. Which means, I acquire a ticket on one machine and pass it on to another remote machine where the session ticket will be used to view the VMRC console of the Virtual Machines.

 

I am working on development of a small tool which should include the VMRC console launch for the Virtual Machines. This tool will be completely offloaded to the endusers and they use it from their own machines.

 

From the users machine, they need AcquireCloneTicket() to get the session ticket and open the remote console of the specific. But it's hard to install powercli on every user machine to connect to VC and get the ticket (also not recommended to have the users hit the VC directly) using the session manager.

 

I am trying to achieve this by placing an intermediate server in the middle. The users would connect to intermediate server using the tool (which does a PS Remote-In - Though the users aren't aware of this). The intermediate server would AcquireCloneTicket() from VC and pass on to the Client user machine. The User can then launch the console of the VM. The problem here is, AcquireCloneTicket() can be used only on the source machine which it has been generated. If we use that ticket on a different machine, It's invalid/expires

 

Any suggestions are much appreciated !

Optimizing networking

I need to reorganize the internal networking of a small vSphere 5.5 infrastyructure based on ESXi 5.5 hosts.

The infrastructure evolved during the time and I need to reorganize and optimize it by implementing the minimum number of physical interfaces.

Where can I locate documentation about the right way to implement and optimize the use of physical adapters?

Operating system not found while I am installing

Hello,

 

I am facing some problem In VMware workstation, when i am trying to Install cucm_10.5_vmv8_v1.9 in Vmware workstation 12 so getting no Operating system is found.

 

CUCM image format is UCSInstall_UCOS_UNRST_10.5.2.15900-8.sgn ( Downloaded from the Cisco Site ).

 

 

Error is ....PXE-M0F EXITING INTEL PXE ROM.

OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND.

Packet receive errors

Hi

 

the Packet receive errors count is high. We did a packet capture but are not sure what to look for. Does anybody know what this count means. in documentaiton it says Number of packets with errors received during the sampling interval. which is very ambiguous. I know in Linux this counter is for UDP does in vmware it means the same?

ESXi 6.5 connectivity issue on PowerEdge R430

Dear,

 

We encountering connectivity issue on newly install esxi 6.5 on PE R430

Whenever we preform file copy (30-40GB files size) from one of the VM Guest to another machine thought network (100MB),  it end up with connectivity issue.

Both VM guest and host became inaccessible thought network.

 

ESX console can still be access, try with "restart management network" and use "testing management network" with result OK on default gateway or other machine.

But unable to access both guest and host thought network.

Connection become normal after shutdown / restart the esx host.

 

Check with VM guest OS event log, indicated that it should still be running during issue and following the auto shutdown/startup setting of esx host.

Look into log and found the following warning keep prompt during copy task perform.

cpu## :67701)WARNING: ntg3-throttled: Ntg3XmitPktList:372: vmnic0:TX ring full (0)

 

I wonder if anyone with suggestion on this issue? thx

ESX6.0 update 3 ESX host taking more than two hours to reboot - DELL R730 with 256GB

One of my esxi 6.0 update 3 server takes long time to reboot. It takes more than two hour and also if I restart the mange met  services takes long time. Contacted VM support and send the logs and they can not figure out the issue. All other host having no issues.

It is a Dell R 730 with 256 GB memory server.

How to run Esxi host 6.5 with 2GB memory!

I built a lab on my laptop, everything is running inside VMware Workstation 12 Pro. I installed Esxi 6.5 with 4GB RAM, it's working fine. I am now running low on memory and I reduce my Esxi to 2GB of memory. Of course, it won't run.

 

At the memory error windows, I tried Alt+F1 but it does nothing. Only ESC to debug and nothing can be done there. Anyone out there has a workaround? thanks.

DB maintenance for vCenter and VDI Environement

Hello Cool People,

 

We are planning to do a maintenance for our DB server where vCenter and VDI is pointing.  This is just to install SQL and windows update.  Is there a special consideration for vcenter and VDI since we may need to restart the DB server.

 

I hope someone can shed some light on this.

After H 6.2.0 to H7.2.0 upgrade SQL Express issues also 2+ monitor ZC issues.

Hi - Anyone having SQL Express connection issues after upgrading from Horizon 6.2.0 to Horizon 7.2.0 ?

I can trigger it to happen specifically after the Agent is upgraded to 7.2. We have some linked clones what were connecting to the SQL Express server fine @ 6.2.0. We upgraded to H7.2.0 and the Still connected fine.

 

We upgraded the AGENT and VMware Tools on the linked clones and that's where connectivity to the SQL EXpress server stopped.

We remove the 7.2 agent and put back 6.2.0 agent and it immediately works.

 

We also have some WYSE Zero clients with 4 monitors that are not working right now.  i.e. not on 2+ monitors.

 

Any thoughts ?

Snapshot rendered machine useless

Hello,

 

ESXi 5.5 build 1892794

Veeam backup

machine - Window 7

 

A few days ago, a machine was frozen during a snapshot (progress at 50%, stuck over half a day).  We called support and they went through to locate the stuck process. Support rebooted the VCenter and then I believe killed the process.  The machine became corrupted.  We had to restore entire machine.

 

Same issue occurred to the same machine about 1.5 months ago.  The support killed the process and it was fine. No restarting of VCenter.

 

I was told there wasn't any abnormally but to look at the case in more details, they have to turn on more logging which will be disk space intensive.  Over the years, we haven't seen anything like this.  The closest thing was a "stun" process for a split second.  As of now, we don't back up that machine anymore.  Just curious if anybody have similar issue.  My worst nightmare would be one day it does that to a more critical machine.

VMware Fusion 8.5 and Windows 10 Performance

I have VMware Fusion 8.5.8 installed with the 32-bit version of Windows 10 installed as the guest operating system.  I encounter episodes when this combination becomes extremely sluggish.  Would I be better off switching to the 64-bit version of Windows 10 as the guest operating system?

 

I installed the 32-bit version of Windows 10 because I was concerned about Quicken Premier data files that I had to move from my 32-bit Windows XP Pro environment.  My usage of Windows 10 is extremely limited.  I routinely update Windows 10 but only run two applications in this environment:  Quicken Premier 2017 and Mozilla Firefox.  I should note that I prefer to keep the Windows 10 environment segregated from my OS X environment and run the VMware Fusion Windows 10 virtual machine in its own window.

 

I would appreciate comments from anyone that has used both versions of Windows 10 regarding which version provides better performance.  Assuming that it is the 64-bit version, can anyone give some guidance in switching from the 32-bit to the 64-bit version of Windows 10.

vCenter 6.5 will not register vsphere replication host

Issue:

After a loss of power to the main host the old vCenter replication VM would not register with vSphere replication VM, also the original vCenter was having issues.  After reading some articles I decided to remove both VMs (replication and vCenter) after doing this I recreated the vCenter VM and registered my 2 hosts and it is working normally.  I go through the steps of installing the vSphere replication OVF and everything works great but when I log out of vCenter and log back in to see if it has registered the plugin it has not.

 

Versions:

vCenter: 6.5.0.10000 build 5973321

vSphere Replication: 6.5.0.1104 Build 4633956

 

this datacenter consists of 2 hosts on for just replications of the first host

 

any help with this would be fantastic, thanks

RHEL 6.8 64bit kernel update breaks Workstation

Guys,

After updating to RHEL 6.8 64bit (2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64), Workstation is unable to start.  We get the "unable to start services" error.

Network Adapter now showing after clone (Windows 2008 R2)

A machine i cloned can't connect to the LAN, the network adapter section is blank as it doesn't have any network adapters associated to it, i have tried to re-install the drivers, re-installed the nics, but nothing seems to work, the original VM does not have this problems (ESXi 6.0)

How to Copy a File from vRO to guest using ssh key

Hello,

 

I want to copy a file from vRO instance (inbuilt in vRA) to the guest VM using the ssh key (in the scriptable task). I don't want to keep the password in my flow because, we regularly rotate the password.

Please help.
